    Default Super Cat Exhaust

Has anyone used the Super CAT exhaust system.
I realise it is a cheap exhaust.

I was looking at getting a full system extractors, high flow cats, and 2 x 2.5inch exhaust for my LS1 VX Berlina.
The local exhaust centre wants (fitted price)
    exhaust $700 - for a general exhaust
    extractors $8-900
    cats $800
    TOTAL $2300-$2400
and I still want OTRCAI + Tune
If I want this setup it wil lbe over a year away, (maybe I should also quote up a place down in Brisbane, and get it done on holidays some time)

On ebay they have a 'Super Cat' cat back exhaust, about $400 delivered.
I googled it and found most people say it has a resonable tone.

    OK, question time.
Is there any good exhaust shops in Brisbane, that can supply and fit either a cat back or full system (extracts, cat, exhaust) for a decent price?

Do the Super Cat systems sound ok.

Are the Super Cat systems really restrictive

How much power gain (allowing if I get CAI and tune)
Would be between using my standard 2 x 2.25 exhaust to Super Cat
Between a Super Cat to a better cat back setup
Between a Super Cat to a full system (extracts, cats, exhaust)

Finally are the Super Cat cat back exhausts easy to fit in your drive way.

    Thanks

I sell the SuperCat exhaust as a cheap system, the only thing I don't like about them is the way the X pipe is done. There was one on the Senator when we bought it, but I cut it out and fitted a true X pipe.

This is it when it was on the car

    And looking through it

And what I replaced it with

Which I have since modified again, getting rid of the front mufflers and moving the X pipe back, then running one pipe out behind each wheel. Very noticeable increase in acceleration in the mid to high revs and increased highway fuel economy.

I can do a set of Hurricane 4-1's with either 1 3/4" or 1 7/8" primaries, high flow steel cats and a 2 1/2" twin Manta system that has the H style balance tube all up for $1990 shipped. All bolt on with no welding, so it can be done at home.

In my Wagon i had a set of Advance Try - Y, 1inch 5/8 fitted full twin 2.5 inch exhaust with straight thru mufflers, mild steel pipe and twin in and out resinator box on the back near rear of car.
Supplied my own Cats, Balistic 100 CPI 2.5 inch in, 4 inch body. $460 shipped for a pair thru Sureflow exhausts.
Dont pay anymore than $500 for a pair of cats shipped to your door or you are getting jipped.

Whole thing fitted by my exhaust mob - Everlast Mufflers S.A. and with cats supplied by me it was $1650 all up drive in and drive out.

My mates say its one of the best sounding exhausts they have heard on an LS1.

Untuned with exhaust and stock SS airbox and tune was 165 rwkw
OTR CAI and tune was 220+ but you should get 230ish.

My advice would be order the cats you want thru Sureflow Exhausts and drive into and exhaust shop, pick out the tail tips you want, tell them the sound you want and how loud and get them to fit it.
Also i would recommend to buy some new Exhaust O2 sensors and have them fitted on the day, i used Bosch ones.

All in all my experience was great and i highly reccomend the exhaust and tune, it makes it a whole new car IMO.

Order extractors i would say get Try Y if your not racing the car, order direct thru here and they will be cheaper - Advance Headers
Order Cats thru here should be no more than $500 shipped to your door - Sureflo Exhaust: Top Quality Custom Performance Exhaust Systems and LS1 Tuning

Then go get a quote for mufflers and fitting from an exhaust shop, it will probably end up being cheaper that way and a better job.
Or you can go buy a Ebay special exhaust but if your not happy with the sound and if it drones your stuck with it, at least if you get it at an exhaust shop they can mix and match mufflers for the ultimate sound for your liking and thats exactly what i did.
Wasnt happy initialy and had some drone but they changed the rear resinators from a hot dog style to a twin combined resinator and its stacks better and sounds more sporty.

Thats my advice but you do as you please.

Did you Dyno/Track test the car before and after the balance section mod?

With the extractors would you recommend the 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 for street use. i was thinking if I went extractors to keep max 1 3/4" for street use, but I've only done up a couple of cars over the years; I don't have expertise as yourself in the trade. Also what spec are the cats? Would the system be a true bolt on no mod?

    Thanks Kev

I'm trying to review each idea. I'm happy to put in a few hours to fit up a decent fitting exhaust myself, I don't mind a bit of drone, I want an exhaust so it sounds like a real V8, but I don't want every cop in town after me. Sound like you ended up with a decent exhaust for decent $. There is a place I'm watching

The cats are CPSI: 200, is that better of worse than 100?
The entire system is $1,800 including an OTRCAI (+ postage) It says stainless finish what are the internals? I'm a bit worries as it has no resonator so it may drone a bit?

I have a Supercat Twin 2.5" exhaust on mine and no problem making 299rwkw and running a 12.0 with consistent 118/119mph passes.. Ive got 1 3/4" headers and Stock Cats.. No drone here and sounds pretty good to me. The Supercat exhaust cant be that bad?? but there is better out there but i cant justify the $$ for the kw gain if any?

the quality of supercat isnt great and id say worse than redback they flow ok though as being a straight through muffler. 100 cpi cats have less restriction than 200cpi but i dont know how much difference in power wise but the sureflo ballistics are of great quality and a great price too

I'd go with 1 3/4" for the street. The cats are 200 cpsi metal substrate. The difference between 200 and 100 cpsi is mainly noise. On a dyno you will pick up a couple ot kW but on the street you wouldn't notice it. Everything is straight bolt up, no cutting, no welding.

I didn't do a dyno run at all, I think street feel is more of a benchmark.

To GenReaper, get new O2 sensors, by all means, but don't fit them for a couple of weeks to give the exhaust a chance to burn off all the coating on the inside. Fitting new sensors straight away can lead to contamination and will stuff the new sensors in a couple of days. Doesn't happen all the time, but more often than not.

Usually the paint or the oil used in manufacture burns off and contaminates the sensors causing the engine light to come on.

    I have one on mine.
I just put it on a it was cheap and better than the crappier one on before it.

They are quite loud, so you might draw attention to yourself if you drive like a trombone....
Its been on for 6 months now with no issues such as cracks etc. For a cheap system, i reckon they are pretty good.

Looks like i'm just going a cat back for now; and build up the mods list over time.

Not_An_Abba_Fan how much for just the Manta 2.5inch twin system to sent Bundy; also for a XForce 2.5inch twin also to Bundy (4670)
