Default Edelbrock Pro Flow XT Manifold on VX Clubsport

My VX Clubsport with new manifold set-up just fitted. Motor std HSV extractors, isky cam, dual valve springs, otr, excedy clutch, 6 speed. Car is daily driver and made 275rkw with original inlet manifold. Haven't dyno'd since new manifold been fitted but very happy and looks great.

Thanks Soop, will post some figures after I get it dyno'd. I've alway's liked things a bit different and appreciate pretty much any quality job done properly. If we all worried about what others thought, nothing would change and progress wouldn't be made. Yes I could have spent my money on new extractors, larger throttle body and exhaust system, but I want to see what I can get out of the standard exhaust before I step it up again. This car is my wifes daily driver and she too likes something different awsell. Yeah she even said the bonnet scoop looks too big, but she is getting use to it and loves the power. Happy wife, happy life. I guess I'm pretty lucky to have a partner that lets me play. I expected responses on the negative side, but hey I love it. I like when the sun shines in under the bonnet scoop when driving along and you can see the throttle body and manifold sticking through the bonnet. I have definately noticed an increase in mid range and top end, but I guess i'll see when it's dyno'd.

Scoop was made and fitted to bonnet by Alfa Motorsport. Great guys to deal with. I dummy fitted edelbrock manifold, etc, fitted another secondhand bonnet and cut hole in bonnet to make sure it would all fit then put it all back together, as I said car is daily driver. I then sent bonnet to Alfa Motorsport where Frazer made and fitted the scoop. This took 3 days but I think it normally takes a buit longer, they where helping me out as it was in a wedding at the end of the week they started the bonnet. Frazer gave me a call saying all done. I picked it up and dropped it off the panel shop where they smoothed everything out and gave it a coat of paint. Again this was done in a day. Thanks Drouin Smash Repairs. The scoop is XB Cowl. All work out good.

Scoop was $450 fitted. Bonnet was blue seconhand item and this cost $550 for painting etc and I gave him a slab of jack just for doing it straight away. Bonnet was off our other crashed clubby we brought as a doner car for another project. So it adds up pretty quick.

looks good, i like the edlebrock manifold, something different on an ls1 and gives it more of an old school look, rocker covers look horn as. Do edelbrock do a relocation bracket for the coils as well or did you source them else where?

There actually call edelbrock coil covers. Coils are removed from standard rocker covers and bolt to underneath of the edelbrock covers you see. Gives the motor a cleaner big block look. The drivers cover needed to be modified around brake booster to give it clearance so not to hit.

    How much for the manifold?
    What are the gains?
    and
Will it fit with the standard bonnet?

For everthing under the bonnet is around $2150 plus fitting. When first bolted it on, it lost throttle response and low down torque but still drove fine. Mid range and top end felt good. Now I have preformed some fuel adjustments it feels f'n awesome. Manifold lean out fuel mixtures on light to mid throttle. Haven't put it back on the dyno yet but I love it. Third gear, full tank off fuel, wet road you can't get traction when you put your foot down. This is with new tyres. Front end gets very light now when holding it on in third. Manifold and throttle body poke through bonnet about 25mm, this is why I fitted scoop. You could put a bulge in the bonnet to cover it.

Just had car dyno'd yesterday at AVO to compare dyno readings. Car made 250kws at 5560rpm, 833Nm at 4500rpm. 25kws down from another dyno but it doesn't both me as its awesome to drive with really great throttle response, wicked mid range and top end. Both Jake and Justin where happy considering it still running standard HSV exhaust. I will now get new extractors, cats and twin 3" x-force system and take it back to be re-dyno it to see improvement. They said you should pick up about 20-25kws as standard exhaust is so restrictive. Justin drove the car and was suprised how torquey it was.

    Thats fairly impressive.
Can I recomend you look elsewhere for the exhaust system? The Xforce mufflers are shocking. (I've got the Xforce 2.5" system on my SS)

They drone like you wouldn't beleive.
And they don't sound all that great. I think my SS sounds like its a V6. Sounds great once you hit about 4500rpm but under that its just "Barrrrrruuummmmmmm".

Going to a full pacemaker setup as of monday.
Frankly, if you had the $3k or what ever it was to do the manifold and bonnet, I'd spend the coin on the pacie setup.

Also, I'm going against the grain and running tri-y's.
lets face it, we don't drive around at 4000rpm all day do we, for a street car 4-1's are a wank IMO.

Proper Long Tube 4-1's sound awesome though. I couldn't give a rats whether I lost power or gained power going from the factory shorty 4-1's (similar sound to Tri-ys) to the long tube 4-1's as the sound quality improved considerably.

The sound alone is a reason to change from an interferance style to a 4-1 style header.

The great Tri-y debate will never end. I think the tune will be bigger determinant on low down torque development rather than header style (standfast primary size) on an LS1 where peak torque occurs at a relatively high 4,500rpm.(As opposed to older style lower revving V8's running simpler tuning methods). Although if I had a tow car or never revved it for spirited driving - a tri-y with twin mandrel bent 2.25 and tuning focussed on the 2,000rpm rev range would be the go."

Fact is, you will benefit day to day from tri-y's. As opposed to 4-1s that only really work as they're designed too when you sink the boot. I mean honestly, if you've got the thing up at 4500rpm in 1st gear you're over the speed limit anyway.
4-1's work, They just sound crap IMO. LS1's have a fairly smooth note as is, let alone with tuned length runners.
If you get them for the sound alone, power to you. I just have a chuckle when people try to make every excuse to support the idea. There's nothing wrong with liking the sound. Everyone is different.

You're right though. The tune will effect it more then anything.
Aussie V8 didn't rev any less then an LS1, it just had a different head design and a bigger bore, which made it easier to build torque.

ive got difilippo extractors now and had pacie try y before it and theres stuff all difference down low but once you get over 2500 revs the difilippos do pull harder and the difilippos sound sooo much better than the try y's imo
