Default LS1 Exhaust, no rear muffler what does it sound like?

Gday guys. Since getting my S2 VY SS ute, i have had a set of Pacemaker Tri-Y's, a twin 2.5" mild steel exhaust, Yella Terra alloy OTRCAI and a Mafless tune done. The exhaust is still running factory cats.

It sounds pretty meaty with the Pacemakers done, but my question is, does anyone have an idea of what it would sound like with the rear resonator removed? It still has the two middle mufflers on it, which will stay there. It does drone a wee bit as is, drone doesn't bother me much, my first car was a VP V6 with Pacies and a single 2.5" mild steel exhaust, and THAT droned LOL.

I'm just looking for a slightly louder note off my LS1 exhaust, i'm not putting hot dogs on it, i know they will sound awful, and i tried ripping the exhaust off at the diff to give me an idea of what it might sound like roughly, but because the exhaust came from the shop in one piece, it's virtually impossible to seperate that rear section that has the resonator on it without cutting it.

If anyone could link me even a Pootube video of what LS1's sound like with extractors and no rear resi, that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Or would it be worth just forking out for some decent steel cats to improve the note a bit? It has to go in when the weather gets warmer for a tune adjustment for summer so i could get it done in one go then.

It will be almost double as loud...

My car had a supercat 2.5" catback on it, then i had headers and cats done (tri y) -- had some issues with the headers clearing the power steering which was fixed and i asked the guy to remove the rear resonator on the supercat system..

Before it had a v8 note, now it's really raspy and does drone a bit but not that bad.

I'll see if i can get a video for you if you want

Nah i'll be leaving the front mufflers in, it will drone like a mother####er without them. Won't drone AS bad without the rear muffler gone. LS1's drone reguardless so i'm gonna cop it either way. I'd just rather the lesser. Cheers anyway bud

Frankly I think LS1's sound revolting with the standard system and no rear muffler.

On a standard system, yep they sound shithouse. Lucky i got Pacemaker extractors and a twin 2.5" system on it. Otherwise i wouldn't bother.

Ahk, yeah me too. Sound is 100% different.

Just for people who read this in the future.
Standard system - rear muffler = Raspy V6.

Agreed ^^^ When i got the ute from the car yard, it had the stock system with no rear muffler. Sounded shithouse. Sounded very very faintly OK if you revved it really high, but not really. Then i had the cat back fitted, sounded microscopically better, still sounded like a droney V6, then after the Pacies went on it lifted the note nicely, as most decent extractors do as you probably well know.

But as it stands, it still has the two front mufflers and the single rear resi. My friend Bec has a VY SV8 with a HSV twin 2.5" system, stock headers and no rear muffler, suprisingly it sounds pretty good. So i'm tipping without the rear resi on mine, it should sound alright. With steel cats, even better.

Took this video this morning, it's only at idle cause the car is cold (and it's idling a touch high, 800-900rpm or so as it's just been started)

    YouTube - WH Statesman LS1 - Idle

Hopefully i can find some time to make a video with some revs up

OH, and the car's mods are:

Tri Y Wildcat Headers (cheap press bent, need to swap em over to pacie 4-1's lol)
    Supercat Hi Flow Cat's
Supercat 2.5" catback rear resonator removed
    Enhanced Automotive OTRCAI
    Mafless tune

I have a twin 3" on mine and I hate it, it is way too loud for me. I am getting a custom made muffler for it to shut it up a bit.

I'm even looking at removing my mufflers and just running pipe but i know it'll be too loud. (well, there is no such thing as too loud) -- just police attention. I get enough already.

    No mufflers will sound crap.
    Rattly and harsh.

No exhaust system will make it sound like a cammed motor...

no not afaik. i cant actually remember now, i waited and watched while it was installed but i don't think it is. Pretty sure one pipe is for either side of the extractors and there isnt an X-Pipe..

cant say for sure unless i had a look
