OBDII Protocol

Hi guys, Quick question.
Which Model commodore has the OBDII protocol for sure?

I've read various things at different sources, some claiming that anything Gen3 is OBDII while others claim its OBDI, I know the V6's use the ALDL protocol as the 5ltr did. So can anyone here say with out a shadow of a doubt what it actually runs?

Gen 3 is OBDII. I am running Aeroforce OBDII gauges in my 2000 VT SS.

Okay, I've been told that certain scan tools wont work with a VY SS. In order to read codes and so on. That I need an OBDI scan tool to read it.

I know where the plug is, but that doesn't indicate which protocol its using, VS 5ltrs have the same plug but use the ALDL protocol.

Gen3's use the OBDII protocol SAE J1850 (VPW), while Gen4's use ISO 15765 (CANBUS).

Okay, only reason I ask is because I asked the seller of this item:

And was told that I needed this item to work on my VY:

He then told me it was due to the fact that the VY used the OBDI protocol.
And that only the VZ and VE use OBDII, which didn't make sense. Seems that the VE has the CANdi protocol.

no, it doesn't do extra work, it just an Obd1 and obd2 scanner.
the one you looked is OBD2 scanner only.
and your car is obd1 car.

Oh fair enough, I was under the impression that all Gen3 engines run the OBDII protocol.

The VN to VY V6 engines all run the ALDL protocol is that correct?

no, only VZ and VE of Holden is OBd2, else model is OBD1

Hey tom yeah the us703 works well with my vx s1 ss an my jg 09 cruz so should go good with the vt if thats what you got it for.

So far it has done everything that it says it will do for the VX soop all the live readings work can veiw an delete codes thats about all i have done with it so far Using the live data i found out that my TPS is the cause of all my idle/RPM issues it wasnt returning to 0% all the time after relaseing the throttle lucky i had a spare 1 changed it over an now all good. Is pretty kool crusing around with it hooked up an watching all the data change as you slow down or speed up.
