Hey,
Exhaust systems and exhaust notes are always a contentious topic on here, So I thought I might start a thread V8 Specific (Lets face it V6's sound shite regardless).
I've had a few different exhaust setups, so here goes.
The first, that came with my car.
A Really backyard 3 1/4" single straight through exhaust. No mufflers.
YouTube - VY SS, single 3 1/4" straight through exhaust
X force 2.5" twin system with rear resonator. Drones allot at cruising speed.
YouTube - LS1 Xforce twin 2.5' catback,
Exact same exhaust on my old boy's VX SS. After I removed the craptastic X pipe and replaced with some straight pipe. Has a nice lope around town now, but the cheap mufflers are still thrashy and drone allot. (Ignore the missing tip, mum knocked it off!)
YouTube - VX SS with X pipe deleted
Full pacemaker exhaust system. Tri-y extractors with a 2.5" collector. 2.5" High flow cats, and a twin 2.5" cat back system, It has the V-tex H-pipe fitted as well. No drone at
YouTube - SS pacemaker exhaust, Pacemaker Tri-y extractors.
Hopefully this is of some use to people when decided what they want.
this is my setup:
Difilippo extractors 1 3/4 primaries to 3inch outlet [Stainless], into Difilippo twin 3inch system [Stainless]
if you can afford DF, i would highly recomend it.

want to see more then a typical commodore fitted with an exhuast, then check my thread out... link broken cuase i dont own a tuff car, i just made it up...
Sounds good dude
kingston-99 nice sounding exhaust, that's how v8's should sound.
Soop, your last one gives me a good indication of what i'm looking at sounds like, sounded better quality than some on there as in no muffling from wind noise, etc.
im getting genie tri-y headers for my vt on friday anyone know what there like for slightly modded ls1's (getting baby cam and head work done i march) i already have a twin 2.5" catback exhaust (x-force) and otrcai and also mafless tune (getting new custom tune when i get the cam and heads done) also would it drone to much or be to loud (legally speaking) if i get the rear muffler cut out at the same time. thanks
What is it size of the Primaries on the Genie manifolds?
I HIGHLY recomend you get the "x-pipe" cut out and replaced with straight pipes mate, sounds so so much better then the Xforce does standard.
I'm not a fan of the Xforce over all, but its serious 200% better without that xpipe, cost me $60 to remove it for my old man.
Six of one half a dozen to another.
The "H" is just a balance pipe doesn't actually do anything with the exhaust gasses. Dads just has straight pipes with no brace/balance in between. Wouldn't change the sound either way IMO.
I'll upload a pic of the POS Xforce pipe.
how much you think a h-pipe would cost im already paying $850 just for the headers (im fine with that but the missus isnt lol) not to sure of the primarys size i will have to make a few phoe calls think the were 31/4 dont quote me on that tho lol, and what you think about the rear mufflers
Primary pipe size means the pipes directly off the ports. So I doubt they're 3 1/4 inch. 1 1/4 would be more like it, but I doubt they're that small too.
It cost me $60 to modify my old mans exhaust system. Its about 30mins worth of work and about 4ft of pipe work. Very straight forward job.
Xforce "X pipe":
Inside:
Total dogs breakfast. Two mandrel bends cut in half and welded together. Nice way to cause a restriction. Dad says the car feels like its picked up a fair whack of torque in the bottom end purely from doing this. Have never run it on a Dyno, but he's not normally one to say something makes a difference, let alone a big difference.
o and the exhaust shop im using (fast fit exhaust townsville) said i would get no benifit from opening up my cats as opposed to leaving them standard, im putting on hiflow's when i get the cam done just cant afford them because of xmas (getting 200cell, cant remember the brand tho)
You'll get a small advantage if you replace the tiny little pipe work with a decent bit. Not a huge difference though!
GENIE 323SS WILDCAT 083SS
5.7LTR & 6LTRV8 GEN3 GASKET PRIMARY 2ND PIPE OUTLET MANUAL AUTO AIR-CON P/STEER OXY FITTING
1999-ON TRI-Y SIZE SIZE FLANGE SENSOR TIME
DSF138 1 5/8 2 2 1/2 Y Y Y Y Y 3hrs
thats copied straight from there website
hate copy paste sometimes so the primaries are 1 5/8
o lol gotta fix that i got a vt ss s2 now haha thanks for pointing that out
So it has 1 5/8 primary's.
That will be fine mate. Bout the same as any other brand.
Can't comment on design or quality how ever. But for $900 no doubt they'll be up there.
Some have 1 3/4 and 1 7/8. But they're normally aimed at highly modified and supercharged engines.
sweet well ill post a link of it when i have them on (getting the x pipe removed as well thanks for the heads up) next thing will be diff gears b4 i get the cam done![]()
o 1 more thing whats your opinion on removing the rear mufflers?
I haven't got one on my Pacemaker system, and its the same volume as my dads Xforce system WITH the rear muffler.
So yeah...
so basically dont remove it with the xforce system cause its already loud enough lol
Hahaha, IMO anyway.
850 for genie try'y is very expensive difilippos are only 900 i had the pacemaker 1 5/8 try'y i bought for 200 used but ditched them for the difilippo 1 3/4 4-1's which imo are miles better
Need to see them side by side to make that sort of comment.
im not really after that much sound wise just want to make sure they will be right for the cam im getting i a few months, are they gonna be restrictive if i get them, idc much for 2-3kw dif between headers as long as they will prove good for future mods![]()
