Question decision to make...to cam or to sc

    hey guys,

well i'll be booking the car to get cammed for next month, will be spending around 7-8k all up for it all
cam specs ive been looking at (224/224) 224/230@114 (228/230@112)

then i just thought hey i could wack on a charger instead ? (Eaton Rotor MP122 is what im looking at) there around the 6-7kish mark

your thoughts on this? which way to go

before all this i wanted to make an easy 300 @ the wheels and ill know it'll struggle with just the cam alone with out bolting on a charger on anyway.

    Thanks

Both if not just charger. Should get to 300 with the charger.

And if it is auto, start saving for a rebuild.

well the 7k includes all the other lil bits like double row, push rods, high stall etc....

ive had a 226/231 @110 in my calais so i know how that goes but maybe i was thinkin go SC first then cam cause cams are alot cheaper to get/install (easy to get cash for) and yeh its an auto but i like my autos

mate the charger might only be 6-7k but then you have all the fuel system, tune etc

they make heaps more power, but are a little bit of a pig to drive in the lower rev range

Yeah HEAPS more power but you sacrifice more low RPM torque the bigger you go.

And the thing would idle like a pig. LS1's sound crap cammed imo. I'd be going the charger route.

    Really?
    I reckon they sound wicked.

Charger ain't so straight forward. Centrifugal chargers are a waste of engery IMO and good luck running a worthwhile amount of boost on a 10.5:1 bottom end.

Cammed my VY and hated it! Ended up getting rid of it not long after. I'll most likely go the supercharger route with my R8.

Can't remember the specs off the top of my head but it wasn't big. Been looking at the GenTT kits. They're fully compliant but I've read about reliability issues.

    They use KKK(KKR??) Turbo's don't they?

    Apparently they're redundant garret designs.
