I have a VT II SS LS1, the only mods include a twin cat back.
Should I wait until I have done headers and otrcai before getting the tune? Or... would it hurt to get it tuned for those added modifications and then add them on later?
mate...
Total waste of money I rekon, you really need at least headers and some sort of CAI.
I have always understood that getting a full exhaust system and an OTR on the LS1's is the first time a tune is needed....
My 2 cents
hey akust0m, i was thinken the same i just got a twin 2 1/2inch cat back (love the sound) and im not that interested in spending big bucks i was thinken about spenden the $$ on a tune instead of the rest of the exhaust! there still should be a good inprovment even if you modify ur air box and don't get an otr
thats my thoughts, i just don't have much $ to play with
if you got the $ then go for it
Waste of time and money.
get the rest of the exhuast and get an decent air intake ie: OTR then get it tuned. will save money in the long run....
want to see more then a typical commodore fitted with an exhuast, then check my thread out... link broken cuase i dont own a tuff car, i just made it up...
...from my understanding a mail order tune can be programmed for exhaust, headers, cai etc.. so it wouldn't necessarily matter in which order you do things in, you would however get the most gains after the modifcations had been done. I was just after some clarification on this. I'm not referring to custom tunes wherby I'd have to get it fine tuned after modifcations, but mail order.
I recently just bought a VX Calais V8 with a 2 and a half inch exhaust from the cat back.No headers or hi flow cats.Did my research on OTR and mafless tune and went ahead with it.Fitted it the other day and all i can say is go for it.I couldnt believe the difference it made.I have 18s on it and it was starting to spin them up when it hit second (auto). All up it cost me $630 and about 2hrs fitting it all up.
just get it tuned for exhaust and such now since its a mail order just wait till you get the rest then put the tune in
Anysort of tune will help, especially a VT SS as they are tuned very rich from the factory.
mine is vx s2 ss manual
I just bought one of these APC Performance mail order tunes. And bought a OTR at the same time from a different place. All i can say is go for it.Made a big difference in power to mine and he was a hell of alot cheaper then most places.Cant tell you what my fuel economy has been yet though.![]()
Theres really no point getting a tune till you get the OTR done. Because as soon as you do the OTR youll need a different tune (From MAF to Mafless and if you get a OTR you will have to go mafless) whereas just adding adding an exhaust your current tune can be touched up.
What he said.
Been down this track before. You think you're not going to get anything else done then you change your mind and next thing you know you're up for another tune. Having been down this track, i'd get the headers and cats done, then the otr and then the tune.
My 2c.
let him learn the hard and $$$ way. we already told him the correct way of doing it. now its up to him which way he wants to go.
