    Default Best Leads to use

    Hey guys,

Just about to service my car. What are the best leads to use on the Genni? Repco have suggested a "Top Gun" brand of leads that they claim are their best. Has anyone used these before? Can you recommend any others?

    Thanks

yeah top gun leads are good quality and reasonably priced....9 mm leads should be big enough for your engine

    Hi,

The best leads I have used would be either Magnecor leads http://www.magnecor.com.au/ or MSD leads.

Give Neil a call on 02 9897-3777 at Magnecor for a price and he would be able to answer any questions you have. They can also do up custom leads if you want different fittings or different lengths

    cheers

so are 10mm 'top gun' leads overkill compared to the 8.5mm MSD leads ?

only reason i say that is cuz ive just looked on ebay (of all things) and the difference in price is $10.00 (the top gun being the more expensive ones)

10mm leads are pointless unless u are running a high ignition system and/or high reving engines. All that they are are a thicker insulation everything is the same as an 8.5 or 9mm leads. Its just to help prevent cross sparking.

gen3's have short leads so oem are fine long lead cars benifit from less resistance

this is not say that putting big leads on a gen'3 is bad

msd make upgaded coils for ls1's so maby have a look these would need 8.5's

im running magnecor leads in mine and there good, i dont know how good as i changed the plugs at the same time so its hard to tell.

but i put the same ones in dads AU I6 on gas and my god what a difference! It was back firing and stalling when you gave it lots of throttle so we changed the plugs and it was marginally better, then we put the magnecors on it and it was like driving a totally different car.

so yeah id definately recommend them.

+ 1 Vote for topgun. I've just recently chucked a set in my VN, and the improvement is very noticeable. Better acceleration, higher revs, and smoother idle. As other people have said the 9mm should do the job.
