How concerned should I be that a radiator shop used green coolant in Dad's LS1 WHII? It was my understanding that LS1s are pretty sensitive to coolants and really should only be presented with the genuine Holden stuff.. yellow/orange in colour... that's the only stuff I use in mine.
Am I worrying over nothing, or is there substance to what I've been told? I wasn't too enthused when Dad told me they put the green shit in it...

Well as far as i know green coolant is for iron blocks an red is for alloy blocks, apparently the green crodes the alloy but i have seen heaps of ls1's with green coolant in them so i dont know how much damage it does, if any.
I only ever run red in mine just to be safe.
Take it easy...But do take it...
Do not argue with an IDIOT.
He will just drag you down to his level an beat you with experience.
Some people take me the wrong way, Like smacking up Marijunna.
I have always run the Holden Dexcool red coolant in my VX SS, the red stuff is designed for the alloy motors.
There was a post on the LS1 forums a while ago from I believe it was Mainlube. It doesnt matter, depending on how long before changes.
Ill see if I can find the post.
if its designed for all alloy engines it doesnt matter what colour it is
i use the genuine coolants only, but has posted above as long as its designed for alloy motors and been flushed should be ok.
the red coolant is long life five years and the green is for 2 years they both are fine to use in alloy motors, cars have had alloy heads for years
We have both red and green at work and always use red in LS engines, doesnt mean to say the green will hurt Ive never thought about it really.
Corrosion is pretty rare in modern sealed cooling systems as corrosion/rust generally requires air in the system which doesnt happen these days.

Thanks for the info, this is a topic I'm really not versed in at all
cheers RiCeY, bit of tech explanation never goes astray
