MCAI important question

G'day, went to do the MCAI mod on my VY clubby this afternoon and failed dismally. the VY HSV's already have that airflow shroud in front of the airbox. i stuffed up on that shroud with my hole as the 90mm PVC pipe was too big. so my question is, without the shroud in front of the airbox will it make any difference because of the heat from the engine, and there being no tunnel to only accept cold air? i have put the 90mm pipe into the airbox and sikaflexed it, however i left the shroud out as i pretty much destroyed it. stupid question i know, but i just want to make sure, cheers
