So put the OTR on the other night and wondering what people have done regarding the rocker breather tube. Mine only juuuuuust reaches the OTR and sits at a funny angle and the tube pops off from the new plug in the OTR. The one way valve stays on the original breather tube but I would rest easier knowing the tube was where it should be and not floating around in no mans land....
Solutions?
Tried to do that today but repco were no help and nothing else was open on a sunday. The other thing I am now confused with after reading LS1 forums is wether or not there should be a one way valve on the breather stopping air going into the rocker cover.
Is the purpose of this tube to vent gases out of the rocker cover or to allow fresh air into the rocker cover???
I'm pretty sure it's to suck oil vapor put of the covers and through he motor so they're burnt out of the way.
This tube is for allowing fresh air into the crankcase via the rocker cover. It is fed from an unpressurised/static yet filtered source, which is why it is between your throttle and air filter. Replace it with a slightly longer bit of hose and all will be well.
This valve
Whaaaaaat is it for? Its the only thing that has sent me into a mass state of confusion with this OTR....
DOI! its just a water drain plug that goes in the bottom of the OTR, this is why you dont do work on cars using a headlamp as means of light, you get confused and miss things which make you look like a total dick! haha oh well lesson learnt.
Interesting actually I had exactly the same problem as you have described.
Did you end up buying an extra bit of pipe?
Yup mines exactly the same darren, havnt bothered with a new bit of pipe yet, just seems outrageous that for such an expensive piece of kit which has been designed for use in one type of car that it doesnt come with everything to fit it 100% correctly. Only gripe I hve about it though...
Funny I spoke to VCM this morning and they suggested 10mm fuel hose, after speaking with my local parts guy he said if it were temporary no hassles but fairly rapidly it will destroy itself on the inside (look fine on the outside), if that happens to get in the engine your up for big problems.
He's given me a number for a guy to speak to so I'll try and leave it there until the weekend and see how it goes.
I guess you also had issues with the MAF connector as well? VCM suggested removing the 2nd clip down further and replacing it with cable ties, at the moment its a little too tight than I would like it.
I'm not looking forward to cleaning the filter that's for sure.
Yeah maf sensor was an absolute prick, had to undo one of the clips, remove a whole lot of tape and plastic tube and re tape the loom differently so that the cable would only just reach.
This all might seem trivial to some, but when laying over 500 for some formed plastic and various fittings you expect it to fit up correctly with everything that comes supplied, shouldnt have to hunt around for answers and trouble shoot the fitting process for things that shouldnt be an issue.
I couldn't agree more, will have a crack at the MAF relocation on the weekend, not much room to get in there although it could be worse.
I would have expected everything to go perfectly, clearly not the case.
Just unravel some of the loom and separate the maf sensor wires from the rest of the loom and retape. It will fit a little better that way.
Haven't got around to the loom as yet although found out what happens when the oil breather tube comes away from the airbox.
I noticed the oil pressure a bit low whilst sitting at the traffic lights last night, off I went and so did the oil pressure, this morning I jump in the car and get check oil, I'm like ohh no just when I have to be at work early.
Checked oil, was all good, then noticed the tube came away from the breather tube.
Will be getting one of the maintenance guys with a heat gun a little later this morning, should fix it up nicely I'm hoping.
