    Default LSX Cam install cost?

    hey all

just wondering what everyone has roughly paid for a cam to be fitted,

as ill be doing one in the coming weeks,

along with valve springs/lifters/pushrods/dual row chain and UDP

and just interested to hear what people have been charged for the job...

    Cheers

I was charged $3000 for a cam, valve springs and a tune. I dare say you'd be looking at a bit more than that if you're changing lifters and the chain. Sounds like you're changing a lot more than you have to.

Lifters equals heads off so that's going to add to your labour costs and parts list.

If there going to take the heads off to do lifters, might aswell do head and cam package which is in the 5grand mark.

Just as a precaution so lifters don't fall in I was just saying that's a good price including tune if he wanted to do lifters and everything

    ahh no it doesn't

All they have to do is pull the rockers off so the pushrods are just sitting, then they need to do is rotate the cam a few times and the lifters will move up and engage in the buckets - easy

to explain why doing a few things

might as well do the dual row chain while im doing the cam as you just have to put the old one back on anyway which is a waste really to save the $$$

ive got a loud lifter atm, so might as well do it in one hit, and while they do it might as well chuck some springs in..

and since im going a 232/234 LSA 112, just for piece of mind im doing the pushrods aswel as I know they are a bit of a weak link in cammed LSX

so def not trying to go over the top with what I have to do, as ive already got one toy thats gone way outta control with the spending,

so the maloo gotta stay in check to some regard lol!!

ive got a mate thats going to do it all for me, who has done it many of times

and its far cheaper than the lowest sum Ive seen posted aswel =)

thanks everyone for your input, its appreciated lol

this guy is onto it ... just a couple of dowls stuck in the holes and the lifters arent going anywhere... if you have some mechanical know how its an easier job then you think to put a cam in... i think that the lsx engines are the easyest cam replacement ive ever done.

so with the dowl do you just rotate the cam as you are pushing the dowl in an it just slips in. About to start a cam upgrade and few other thing on my ls1. I might have to take the heads off yet to rebuild it if i see fit but if not this sounds like a good idea.

pretty sure you just slide it in all the way without rotating the cam but i always do just to make sure that the dowel goes past all the lifters.

You'll have to forgive me for not sugar coating the entire world, but I really just don't care. Every question that I respond negatively towards could have been answered with literally 30 seconds of research.
