hey guys, I'm changing my ls1 manifold to a ls6 one. at the same time I want to upgrade/ get nicer fuel rails and braided fuel lines and fuel regulator. I can't seem to find that much info about it. what I would like to know:
is it worth getting new injectors as well?
has anyone does this before and what parts/ brands did u use?
will I need a retune after changing the fuel reg?
what psi shud the reg be set at?
and anyone with these sorts of mods can u please post some pics
Good questions.. I am also interested in the pros/cons of upgrading the fuel system on the LS1.
I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on tape somewhere
it's fairly stock. full exhaust, ramjet otr, mafless tune and under drive balancer. my next step was the intake so I figured swap fuel rails / fuel reg at the same time
Im fairly sure the stock ls1 system can handle about 300rwkw, so unless your pushing those kind of numbers (with the mods you listed, i doubt it) it's really not worth it.
Take it easy...But do take it...
Do not argue with an IDIOT.
He will just drag you down to his level an beat you with experience.
Some people take me the wrong way, Like smacking up Marijunna.
as above, not worth it, unless going stroker or FI
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
your fuel pump will the first thing that will need replacing in the fuel system at around 280-300 rwkws the your injectors at around 330rwkws fuel rails and reg can support fairly big numbers. those figures are ballpark. You could go and put a 1000hp fuel system in and wont see any performace gains. But if you are ganna go a big fuel system for future mods, some thing like this would suit a ls1 fairly well depending on what mods you did to your car. Intal walbro fuel pump feeding a 3-5lt surge tank with twin bosh 044 pumps -8 braided line's, fast fuel rails, deka 60lbs injectors and a fpr 2000 turbosmart fuel reg all speedflow fittings and lines. Easy way to spend 2+ grand. ;-)
have fun

but in saying that if you want the bling of nice shiny fast fuel rails an braided lines. Do it. It wont make any differance it will just look good and it will be ready for future mods.

yeah I always knew fuel rails and reg Wudnt give me more power. thing is I wanna get the ls6 manifold but wanna keep stock injectors and as I've been told the ls6 manifold won't take the VTii injectors. so I figured get aftermarket fuel rails and with most aftermarket fuel rails they don't accommodate the stock regulator hence why I'd rather just get the full set up. and for the shiny wank factor lol.
feel free to correct me if any of the above is wrong. I'm still learning
LS6 and LS1 manifolds are identical as far as injectors/rail placement is concerned. Direct swap-over.
yeah right. well I still wouldn't mind doing it if I can figure out how. so questions still stand.
retune?
brands/parts?
pics?
You also realise the stock regulator is in the fuel tank, right?
buy some fast fuel rails from the states and it should have all the parts you need with instructions i think they are around 200 for a fuel kit ($330 in aus). dont buy cheap shit rails they will leak. stick with good name brands.

Nemisis - what would you know? I read in Street Commodores Mag that they put a turbo smart polished fuel reg in the engine bay, and pumped the fuel pressure up to 90psi, and with a Martin Donnon tune, made 320rwkw, on a magic stick 220/220 cam. Also, you have to be smart and upgrade your throttle body to a 180mm one straight up, as the stock one is a huge restriction. Have you tried the bunnings CAI also? Best to do that with the throttle body to see some real big gains.
ohk my bad. well what's it there for? and how do people replace it when changing to aftermarket fuel rails
It is there to stop fuel pump pulse, which doesn't really affect Commodores anyway. It was put there more for the US cars which ran a different style pump.
LS2 factory rails don't have them for example, and I've never seen/heard of any problems when swapping to aftermarket rails without having this dampener installed.
yeah sweet, thanks mate. looks like I'm all sorted. time to go shopping![]()
and what fittings do the fuel line uses? are there special tools I'll need to do the swap?
you will need one of these if you are using the standard fuel lines depending on what size out let you want -6 or -8.Quick Connect 3/8" Female Fuel Line Rail -6AN Adapter | eBay you will need the tool to take this sort of fitting off also
