    Default mail order edits.??

    what the ?....whats a mail order edit and is it the same as a true ls1 edit....and how much is it and is it available in melbourne.??.thanx.

    a Mail order Edit or Tune , is when you remove your PCM ( Power Control Module ) and send it off to a Tuner , they will Load on a Basic Tune thats Safe for your car but isnt pushing the Boundries of LS1 PCM tuning, and Send it on back , next day. While it is a Good Performance Gain , it is Not as good as a Custom Tune.

    I have been informed by some people that they were very pleased with their mail order PCM.
    So be alright if you weren't after maximum power.

    A mail order edit is just the base tune we load in when a car comes in for a full custom tune as the starting point. it is a 95% tune that takes into account the variances between cars , a custom tune just massages this further.

    If in Melbourne i would give Chip Control a call on 03 97403363 and speek
    to Scott as LS1 Gen3's consume about 80% of his weekly dyno time.
    Somone that spends this amount of time tuning a particular type of system
    can become very good at it with constantly improving results.
    Just food for thought.

    Yep, just off Horne Street in Sunbury. Have been down there a few times. Nice clean shop and great blokes.

    Do you offer a package which has the mail order tune & VZ MAF & MAF pipe? If so, emmachiset?

    Or, would you not bother with a MAF at all? I have a VYII which gets driven on the road, not the track, and has no other mods at all (although I am looking for an ex-HSV catback exhaust...). So it would need to be able to cope with the odd dose of 92 to 95 octane fuel. I try to always fill up on premium, but sometimes it isn't available.

    Why pay for a VZ maf and tune when you can just go straight to a mafless tune if you are after max hp.

    Mafless tunes are harder and some cant get a handle on them so they try and fob you of with paying extra and using a 85mm VZ maf , yes it is less resrictive than a 75mm VT/VY one but a 100mm pipe is no restriction.

    If you want to get a mafless tune done , go and get yourself a Monaro mafpipe ( $55.- from holden), remove the MAF and replace it with a piece of stormwater pipe. As the Monaro mafpipe is larger than the standart , use the larger bit of the pipe (female) to fit into the mafpipe and the smaller bit into you airfilter.Perfect fit and you get rid of the restrictions of your old mafpipe for a small amout of money.Also increase the intake to your airfilter MCAI Part Numbers and How-to
    I just had a mafless mailorder edit tune done and the car seams to have more power at lower Revs . I am just waiting for the extractors and highflow cats and than I put it in for a Dyno to see what the power increase is.

    Guys, what sort of approximate power gains and fuel consumption figures would I get from a standard mail order tune on a completely stock VZ SS (250Kw)? I had a look at that projectmonaro site mentioned earlier in this thread but that engine started life as a 220Kw not a 250Kw so I'm guessing there'd be other differences, possibly exhausts etc compared to my SS.

    Not sure on exact figures but I have mailorder tune on my almost stock vz ss. Definatly has gained power but biggest difference is in the gearbox(a4) Shifts heaps harder. Fuel consumption has improved slightly.
    Definatly a good investment davo only drawback being car is of the road for a few days due to vz fuel guage problem, pcm must be sent to tuner rather than receiving an exchange unit.

    how much extra kw do you get out of a LS1 remap? also does any1 know any good simple mods for a R8 Vy Maloo thanks
