    Na that's all good

They normally sell for about $270 but there is a pricing error on our site which I'll let slide (till I figure out how to change it LOL )

Got my new CAI in the post yesterday. Thanks for getting it over to me so quick Steve. A week to get to Perth which included two public holidays and a weekend is pretty good in my book. Thumbs up to the posties as well.

Fitting wasn't a difficult job aside from a very stubborn rubber bush from underneath the factory airbox that would not budge, even with a truck load of WD40, and ended up splitting in two. Anyway, drilled it out and all was sweet. The box is a good fit and looks neat as a pin.

Haven't done many k's with it yet but there does seem to be a difference in the throttle response and of course there is the induction noise. Now sounds very different to standard.

Will be interesting to see what difference there is to economy (if I can resist the urge to hear the roar) over the next couple of weeks. Last tank pre-installation was 13.15 ltrs per 100 kms (at the pump) with a combination of peak hour and highway/freeway driving. Will post the economy details once this tank is done.

    Sounds Good VS 5.0,
I'm hanging for mine to arrive!!
I've also got one of Steves 70mm Throttle Bodies coming, I'll take some before and after Pix, and of course let you know how performance goes as well :-)

    Good one.

I didn't take any photos of my install. I reckon everyone knows what the standard set up looks like and the finished product looks just like the fitting instructions (which I was happy about) but if you want some pics I will take some later today an upload.

Glad to hear your happy VS 5.0 Fuel economy should also improve provided you resist the urge to sink the boot into her

In terms of the ecotec v6, just wondering how does the mace CAI setup accommodate the air temp sensor originally plugged into the top half of the factory air box?

there is a pre drilled hole in the side of the enclosure. you simply remove the air temp sensor from the factory air box and fit it into the new enclosure.

This cirtantly sounds the goods from the feedback so I'll pick one up when I can

I'm running the VT V6 with the SS CAI into the stock box with a K&N, got pacies and a 2.5 exhaust too. How will installing a port/polished 69mm throttlebody go with this setup including the mace CAI and Pod?

    cheers

Much better throttle response and with a decent exhaust sound maybe sound a bit better idk. As i haven't got one of the port/polished 69mm throttlebody or the mace cai yet so can't really give you a honest opinion

I'm interested in one of these too, currently running the S/C V6 intake as it came standard. I agree with what people have said previously, this inlet does get very hot even just after a short drive.
Where does the air come in to feed the pod, is it just whatever can get through the gaps in that front headlight assembly? Or have people been able to force more air in another way.

Yeah the stock otr cai's are a heatsoak nightmare when the car isn't moving eg at traffic lights or idling

It will certainly allow the engine to breathe much more freely, translating into some noticeable gains in addition to sharper throttle response.

    Hey Cutty,

Tsunamix has summed it up well as to the workings of our box

Quote Originally Posted by Tsunamix View Post

I've been working on this idea myself, and have bought a box from MACE to play with.

See the first part of it goes like this :-

When your car is moving, cold air comes in through the grille. Then it tends to back up at the radiator, which is a restriction to air flow. This builds a high pressure area right in from of the radiator. This high pressure area acts a bit like a cushion and pushes air over the radiator, left and right of the radiator, and below.

These areas coincide with the common placings of cold air intakes. OTRCAI obvioulsy, but air pushed left and right, into the headlight surrounds is also a high pressure area. This is right where the MACE box collects air from.

My thoughts run like this. If i can find a little bit of spare metal in the headlight surround, I can cut a vent in it (you know - drill 2 holes, then slot out in between - bend the flap forward to form a scoop) and the high pressure air willbe right in the damn cold air box.

I will probably be using some Single sided foam tape to seal between the box and the body as well.

Having positive air pressure at the MAF could be interesting EH ?

Photos will follow, when the kit rocks up. Probably today.

    Cheers

(oh by the way - High is a relative term. Take it as meaning higher than the static air pressure away from the car)
In saying this though you can always tweak the box if you wanted by cutting up your body work are running a down pipe style of intake etc. Though, understandably, not many people choose to go down that path as it’s not an easily reversible one.

    Cheers
    Steve

Just curious has anyone logged a run before changing the stock box/filter and after to confirm that these things actually work?

As in draw more air in, and actually keep the inlet cooler?......

eg. Do a VCM Scanner run with VCM Suite.

Thanks Steve, I will have a poke around the CAI area and see what I can find to allow a bit more air in. I know exactly what you mean by running a pipe down as a forced intake, I did it on a VL years ago; worked a treat but am reluctant to do anything like that to this car.
Once I save up a few pennies it will be my next purchase.
    Cheers.

Not on a VZ, but immortalty has on his VS using EFILive as shown in the link below

    MACE Cold Air Intake

Bare in mind that the factory VZ airbox is much worse then a factory supercharged 6 cai/airbox so I'm very confident that the gains would be even greater then that on a VZ

Just installed my Mace CAI today and very impressed with the results so far. Very noticeable difference in throttle response and has changed the exhaust note a little as well. WIll test it more during the week, but so far very happy with the purchase.

First tank of fuel now done. Economy hasn't really changed with this tank getting 13.4l per 100 km compared to 13.15 for the last tank pre-instal. May have something to do with a heavy right foot in the first few days after install. I also didn't reset the ECU after installing and I am lead to believe I should have. So filled up again last night and reset the ECU. Will be interesting to see if anything changes for tank 2.

Thats interesting as I wouldn't think you would need to reset the ecu after installing the CAI

Yeah, not something that I thought of but having read another thread on here...

what does the ecu learn after you reset it?

...I thought I may as well do it.....can't hurt.
