hey everyone, just got my mace memcal the other day.
after installing the engine light stays on, it has a lot of trouble starting but will eventaully, and drive barely works at all.
whats the deal, have I done something wrong? or do I have a dodgy chip (came directly from mace)
Try calling MACE, Steve is a very helpful bloke.

ill give it another go this morning, the ecu wilil need to reset its-self yeah?
yea just drop the battery for 5 mins, that will do it
Vs eco 3.8, extractors, 2.75" exhaust, roller rockers, cammed, bored out 20, t5 manual, rolling on king springs all way round with monroe gt shocks all way round, every door has a ding but looks can be very deceaving
just had another go at it, memcal was definitely in correctly. (both clips clicked in), and the negative battery terminal was unplugged. that didnt work, so I tried unplugging the ecu wiring looms and leaving it sit for 15-20 minutes, still with the same result.
have I been screwed with a dodgy chip?
open up blue cover and check soldering. if there is any pins without a good solder joins whats happening to you is the first sign. the other thing it could be is a bit of solder crossing two pins
Making and running DUAL CHIPPED ECU SINCE 2010
dual eproms
under blue cover look at these solder joins

Im putting my issues down to dodgy fuel, assuming that 98 is the recommended fuel for these mace memcals. lacking power a lil an after a near full throttle push engine light comes on so im guessing it detects a knock from bad detonation an check engine comes on as safe mode
I doubt mace are soldering eproms in, they might have just had a problem with a bad burn or run of them. Best to contact them directly with questions tho. I know it shits me up the wall when people post of threads blaming me for such things with 99% of the time it was another problem
I would say in your case it's a problem with the memcal since that's all you have changed and the engine light is on. I don't know who made it but I know once in a while you can easily make a dud one. But just email them direct and they will fix it up, it's the more correct way to go about these things I rekcon![]()
yeah ive been emailing steve about it. this thread was more to check if id done anything wrong in the installation.
edit: greenfoam I should have bought one of your tunes, I got a mace one cos it was quick and express posted but after all the time and fuel thats been wasted with these may as well have waited til you had some for sale lol.
Well it's not any rocket science with a VR, I'm sure you'll end up with a good one once the dude that makes them fixes it up![]()
yeah would've been handy this weekend. (drove Geelong to Adelaide) coulda saved a bit on fuel.
Should have waved on the way pastor at least had me fix it I would have been happy enough to help out
im still here lol what are you doing right now? email me, nathanwright@gmx.com
looks like a TRX100 ebay special to me![]()
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
I duno why you would bother soldering in a eprom when the memcal is 1U on the knock board = VR memcal allready
nathanwright,
My appologies for the product difficulty. We genuinely did our best to make sure that you received the product the next day even turning a blind eye to the paypal payment which hadn't cleared yet.
As other have stated things like this can happen on the odd occasion.
