You may have been sent off a longer steel intake pipe by mistake. The alloytec CAI kits run the same diameter pipe as they earlier kits except half as long. The tube should be around 50mm long. Let us know if this the case and we'll send you out another one ASAP

There is a steel pipe that joins the rubber hose and pod filter together. If this pipe is too long it will intrude into the inlet tract hurting airflow, thus performance.

On this airbox note we've had a customer swap a popular cai kit on his VZ which was more then double the price of ours, with our own. The end result was an increase in performance What I'm getting at is that I know these kits work well based on my own findings and the feedback other people have given us over the years, however In your case I'm 99% you've been supplied a longer pipe for the job, assuming the car is in good working order.

    Cheers

gleny1998 - what makes you think that the CAI is the cause of your sluggish acceleration? when was the last time you did plugs & leads? have you reset the ECU since putting the CAI on? all VERY important.

I too was not noticing a difference with my home made cold air ( swear it works just as well. Seeing sub 30 deg intake temps. ) I reset my ECU... and holy crap was there a difference !
whether this is an actual gauge or not, My scan gauge showed I was getting 187 KW compared to it showing 172 - 175 normally under WOT at 6000 RPM.

I highly doubt its the mace product causing this, id be checking ur leads, plugs, maybe even a blocked cat, or could even be a bad batch of fuel as others have said too reset ur ecu

Steve's cool like this, if he accidentally sends the wrong thing or forget something, he will run himself ragged to fix it, so if he doesn't see this by mid-ish tomorrow just give him a call and explain this thread.

But when you get the right pipe, reset the ECU.

    glenny1988,

My apologies. Good news is that it should fix the problem you're having (unless there is something else wrong)

Send us email to sales@maceengineering.com.au with a link to this thread and clearly stating the part you need, and it will be sent off via express tomorrow.

Pull battery terminal off for a couple of minutes. Will clear any error codes and will reset the IAC. Rev to 3k in Park once motor is warm. Hold for 10 seconds. IAC has been set.

Thats set the IAC properly, your idle. IAC = Idle Air Control valve. You don't HAVE to do it, but its really not that much work.

Yeah, with every car I've owned I've been told to reset the ecu after mods. It's never made any noticible difference.

If we are talking self learning ECU's then give the modification a week to bed in,not fair in using it for a day or two and giving it a review. When std my XR6T was a boat for a few days when ECU was reset.

    Just a thought.

That's why a proper tune should be done eg efilive or hp tuner to get better results from a cai mod

Someone correct me if wrong or not

You don't need to reset the ecu as the ecus are self learning. Also on a VZ the rev it over 3 grand thing is not relevant. IAC will learn second by second so revving over whatever is just pointless. VP and earlier had a different ecu so yes the rev thing can relearn the IAC default position but any later models???? Well NO

Not to mention the earlier cars are not self learning. I'm pretty sure the ecotec ecu didn't have it.

i love reading this i reset my ecu and gained 500kws shit makes me laugh guys WOT is based off pre set maps no ifs buts or maybes.

also don't waste your time reving your car to 3k rpm for 10 second to reset IAC as alloytecs don't have IAC they are electronic throttle body so the ecu just opens the throttle as required for idle.
