I thought it was time i did a review on the products i bought from mace. To do that, ill start from the start.
A good while ago i bought the 12mm insulator, 12mm spacer, 69MM TB and the 82 deg thermostat for my VS Ecotec. Soon as i got them i put the spacer and insulator on, without a tune and so on. It was wonderful. When i took them out i really noticed a difference. I removed them due to buying another inlet manifold and plenum. This was the canvas from what my mates called "project big bore". In between finishing it i managed to kill the engine..
As stated i got some nifty mace products and an intake system. What i did was hone out and smooth the plenum. No pitting and all that, took the intake mouth out abit too.
I then fitted the mace spacer and measured up for over hang. I then cut off all the excess inside the plenum so it sat flush on the inside.
I then got my insulator and also port matched that to the plenum. Then matched that to the inlet manifold. I then bored out the runners abit and smoothed all that out leaving rough patches here and there for some turbulence. After that i port matched the inlet manifold to the heads.
Oh and also put in my 82deg thermostat.
The only other "mods" to it were a L67 OTR CAI and a K&N panel filter. Im still yet to replace the injectors, redo the air ducting and buy the mace CAI.
In the machine time and such to do all that, i finished my motor off (killing it for good).
I then scored myself an ecotec out of a VT, which was perfect because i had my VS intake lol.
I got a mate to burn me a tune too.
Due to the tune suiting the VT injectors and not my clicking clogged up failing VS ones it doesnt run to smooth. But the throttle response and take of is astonishing. Doesnt help i have a failing box too. (thatll be fixed real soon).
I have to say, for the small amount of money paid for these parts (cheaper then the rockers) im loving it. Good value for money and Steve, the good bloke he is, got hassled by me daily about can i do this and that and also ran a different intake idea past him.
So to sum it up:
Mace: Good products, good value, excellent customer service.
Performance: With a failing box and dodgy injectors, still flogging stock standards, 304 V8s (first to 100) and wheel spin power.
Temp: Low as all hell. Only has ever reached 1/4 round town.
Over all: If you have the time and money, do it.
Ill be happy to answer any questions. The engine, with only a cat back and hadnt been looked after at all made 126RWKW in the VT. Its now in the VS with this so when its running properly ill attach a dyno sheet.
