    dear Steve and crew

i have just purchused a 1996 vs commodore, just for a toy. i have been slowly getting the outside up to scratch and with that well on the way i need help. the main idea for this car a 1/4 mile runs. i live on the gold coast queensland, and im a keen willowbank raceway fan.

The car is dead stock, owned by a 56 year old. NO mods of any sort. i have been looking thur your website at all your products just dont know where to start.
i would like to have a tuff na motor doing 14 to 12 secs i be happy. being a long term project im open to all ideas.

    Thanks Bigproject.
ps imfo on mods for the stand trans would be good. Plus any workshops on the gold coast or brisbane worth a look. Hi toqure performence is my local shop.

    Hey Bigproject,

    Thanks for your inquir.

    In regards to your questions/statements…

“i have just purchused a 1996 vs commodore, just for a toy. i have been slowly getting the outside up to scratch and with that well on the way i need help. the main idea for this car a 1/4 mile runs. i live on the gold coast queensland, and im a keen willowbank raceway fan.

Nice What is your approximate budget short and long term?

“i would like to have a tuff na motor doing 14 to 12 secs i be happy. being a long term project im open to all ideas.”
Admittedly achieving a low 14 or lower will be fairly expensive in NA form. If you were really chasing these figures and were on a budget, then you would really have to consider forced induction as an option.

    “Thanks Bigproject.

In regards to trans mods, I would honestly hold off on doing anything until you’re clear on exactly what you want to do with the car and how much you want to spend.

If you arguments sake you were sticking with only bolt on mods, then you could consider installing something like the item shown below
TRANSGO SHIFT KIT STAGE 2 FOR 4L60E VR VS VT VX VY VZ | eBay

In regards to performance shops on Goldy, I’m not a 100% sure sorry

If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask.

    Kindest Regards,
    Steve

    Thanks steve

Mate as the car is a toy, and having two partners in this car. The buget if open really, just going to do things slowly.
i have been thinking about supercharging down the track, thats on the list. Your completely right the transmission will be last thing, once all the mods are in place.
after countless hours goin thur the net and books i have come up with this list so far. am i on the correct path??

    Mace
    cai kit
    69mm tb
    85mm airflow meter
    191 roller rocks
    crow cams
gen extractors, 2 1/4 cat with hi flow stainless, y pipe, rear system 2 1/2 designed by southport exhaust.( good mate)
    Tune by chiptoqure or hitoqure

Thats a start i think but all done slowly and one or two things at a time. im also chasing spare parts just little things like new switches and body bits. The car is in unbelieve condition, but im a real tidy freak.
I have been using a website called holmart for some parts, would you recommend any sites?? Any think else i should know please tell me. As this is the first commodore under my knife!! normally 4cyc turbos hahah

    cheers bigproject.

If you’re considering a cam upgrade, I’ve tweaked your list a little. Other items which I would recommend would be our plenum spacer and manifold insulators

    Mace cai kit
    69mm tb
    85mm airflow meter
    COMP Cam
Double row Rollmaster timing chain set
    130# Valve springs
    Retainers to suit
Gen extractors, 2 1/4 cat with hi flow stainless, y pipe, rear system 2 1/2 designed by southport exhaust.( good mate)
    Tune by chiptoqure or hitoqure

    Do you have pics handy

Mick from Holmart is pretty good. Otherwise for hard to source parts you can try your local Holden dealer, Rare Spares or eBay

If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Ideal combo would be a 12mm plenum spacer and a 25mm manifold insulator
