Hey Guys,
I have a VY 03 with 180,000km's to date.
I recently got pay rise at work!! (Yay!)
And i figure best way to spend my hard earned Money is on my car..
This is how i plan to do things.
Step 1.MANIFOLD INSULATOR 12MM and 12mm PLENUM/MANIFOLD SPACER
Step 2.HIGH RATIO ROLLER ROCKERS maybe Ultra but i don't know if it would fit on a basic V6? Don't have an L67
Step 3. CROW CAMS TO SUIT V6'S WITH HIGHER RATIO ROCKERS
What do you guys think of that plan? How would you do it differently?!
Current Mods -
Full exhaust (Pace maker Extractors)
MACE CAI
sell car and get a later model :P
but your plan sounds good if you want to keep it, i wouldn't do much more
IMO just get the cam and not the rockers. A cam that is suitable with high ratio rockers is a good idea if you already have the rockers, but if you don't just get the cam.
Ultra's will fit on an ecotec.
You will probably be looking at a similar power increase for high ratio rockers + cam to suite when compared to just a cam (that is not designed for high ratio rockers) so why not just save some money and just get the cam?
You think once i get a Cam i won't gain anything from Rockers aswell?
Hey Letthiswork1,
"I have a VY 03 with 180,000km's to date."
Nice
"I recently got pay rise at work!! (Yay!)"
Congrats
"And i figure best way to spend my hard earned Money is on my car.."
Sounds good to me
"This is how i plan to do things.
Step 1.MANIFOLD INSULATOR 12MM and 12mm PLENUM/MANIFOLD SPACER"
Good place to start. Consider adding a cold air intake.
"Step 2.HIGH RATIO ROLLER ROCKERS maybe Ultra but i don't know if it would fit on a basic V6? Don't have an L67"
We only recommend the 1.9 high ratio rockers for the VY models with the 5/16" push rods due to clearance issues.
"Step 3. CROW CAMS TO SUIT V6'S WITH HIGHER RATIO ROCKERS"
If you wanted to go with a cam it may be better to leave the high ratio rockers and go for a Comp Cams cam as the gains will be better then with the high ratio rockers/ crow cam to suit. If you get a cam you will need to have the engine tuned to suit fortunately we can now supply tunes to suit our cams for the VX/VY models.
"What do you guys think of that plan? How would you do it differently?!"
Its a start. Other items to consider would be:
Holden re calibrated computer / pcm to suit VY V6
82 degree thermostat
69mm throttle body
If you have any question please don't hesitate to ask.

If i got the Comp Cams the PCM is included isn't it? Or is that something else..
I heard the Thermostat is more for Supercharged VY's?
Throttle body is on my list too.. Just looking for best bang for buck
Thanks so much for the detailed reply

That kit includes it the PCM

More noticeable on super 6s but works well on ecotecs

Completely understandable![]()

Hey Steve,
Are changing the Comp cams a big job? I don't have my car at the moment so perhaps the v6 is a bit easier but everything I have seen says I need to take my whole engine out to swap the cam?
" Are changing the Comp cams a big job? I don't have my car at the moment so perhaps the v6 is a bit easier but everything I have seen says I need to take my whole engine out to swap the cam? "
It's not a difficult job but can be a little time consuming. It can definitely be done with the engine in the car but you will need to remove the radiator and thermo fan so that the cam can slide out of the cam tunnel. You will also need to remove the intake manifold and timing cover etc.
I'd recommend getting a car manual such as a gregories as they have very clear step by step instructions as well as pictures for these types of jobs.
Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions.

Just a recommendation, if you're going through the effort of pulling down the motor, be sure to get A new double row timing chain, Valve springs, valve retainers, new lifters, new gaskets, oil (as you need to service it while running in the cam) You'll also need to flush the radiator fluid out so you'll need some of that also.
These are all things I didn't think about when I did mine, in the end my cam install was delayed and I got it all put in at the same time. Just make sure (if you're doing it yourself) you let your lifters sit in a bowl of oil for about 24 hours before installing to lubricate them.
I reckon if you want to be 100% reliable get your cam bearings changed. I'm not sure if they're a press fit, but if they are then they DO require the engine to come out. I didn't do my bearings, but he said at 200,000 they were getting pretty worn.
Just some things to get in mind, if you don't change any of them things, especially lifters or the timing chain, it's all gotta be pulled out again.. Do it once do it right.

Thanks Devil,
In all Honesty i am considering replacing the engine at 200,000k's and getting something else put in. The car is in Top nick so i think ill probably go doing that and just Cam the new one even if its the engine i end up going for. I just bought the Intake Manifold and Plenum Spacer from Mace for now though![]()
Let us know how you go with the spacers Thomas,
