Hey guys,
I thought that I may as well make a thread about my Mitsubishi Magna (new daily replacing the VS) as it really is a reliable car and drives pretty goodI purchased the car on the 26/09/2011 for only $750, I was absolutely shocked how good it was, I thought it was going to be a wreck for that price. It was unregistered and no roadworthy, but all it needed for a roadworthy was a headlight lens, tail light lens, and wiperblades. No oil leaks or nothing. Has got a few dents and faded paint on the bonnet and roof but i'm not complaining, I mean $750, whats there to complain about. And this thing is excellent on fuel, gets about 650kms to a tank, cheaper to run then the VS.

$3200 isn't bad for a reliable daily, dno if I could bring myself to spend that much on a Magna though
Btw, does it have aftermarket extractors or are they the factory ones?
Yeah that money was just on the Service, Tuneup, Timing Belt and balancer shaft belt, other 2 Belts, Coolant, New Headlights and Tail Light Lens, New Exhaust, Re-tinted windows, rego, insurance and a few other things. I also gave it a good clean up, it looked like it hadn't been washed for years when I got it, and smelt like cigarettes inside, but its all good now.
They are the factory extractors, it doesn't have an exhaust note or anything but i'm happy with it
EDIT: And I also bought a new battery because it was turning over slowly, and a spare key cut (the key cost $120 on its own because it has a microchip in it or something).
Oh sorry that was a mistake with the money spent on it, $2500 - $750= $1750. For some reason I added the cost of the car into the money spent on it.
nice mateyou gonna make it look like a decent car
more low some rims and a better stereo?

If Cars could scream Rape, I'm sure yours just did because I just eye fuc&ed the shit out of the above images.
Thanks mate, not too sure what i'm going to do yet. I mainly got it because I can't drive my VS Berlina for 2 years and I don't like leaving my Statesman parked out on the streets of Ballarat overnight when I go visit mates (my VS already copped a smashed passenger side window and windscreen from someone trying to either break in or just cause damage).
But I did drive a lowered TF Magna at work and it didn't ride rough at all, still the same as mine, just handled a bit better. Too bad none of my Commodore rims fit it or else there would already be a set of rims on it haha.
one thing i like about the magna is the pillar-less style doors lol.
but thing number 1 that shits me is the tyre wear on the front, its bloody ridicules! and when driving all you can hear is the tyres on the road, gets annoying around town.
Yeah I like the pillarless doors as well, I thought there would be a fair bit of wind noise on the highway going 110km/h but there isn't.
With the tyres i'm just going to rotate them every service (5,000kms) so they wear out evenly and last longer, as for the noise, these tyres are pretty quite, i'm not sure if I should get another set of them or just use the Goodyear Duraplus 205/65R15 tyres that we sell at work.
Talking about ridiculous tyre wear, Hyundai Getz, Toyota Echo, and all the other small front wheel drive cars like them alway wear out the front tyres and the rear tyres are still like new, just because there is hardly any weight in the back. The tyres on this Mitsubishi still had a decent amount of tread left when I bought the car and they still look like they will go another 5,000-10,000kms.
It had 239,300kms when I got it, now its got 245,638kms. And that trip meter, notice it has done 404kms since I last filled up with fuel and its still got half a tank haha.
also, the boot on the ol' magna isnt as strong as i'd wish it was.
when a chain snaps....
hahahaha
Nice cheap ride you've got there. For $750 you got a bargin!
It's a shame it doesn't have the 3L V6 in her...those engines were pretty smooth and refined (in my opinion smoother then the equivalent Commodore 6 of the same year),
and had a bit of poke in them.
Then again you can't argue with 400+km covered using only half a tank of fuel, which (off the top of my head) the Magna had a 70L or so fuel tank capacity...
Haha yeah I know, it was advertised on eBay for $850, so I decided to go have a look at it, and when I got there the guy said, give me $750 and ill be happy, so I accepted his offer haha.
Yeah I wouldn't have minded a V6 but im not too worried. I actually haven't seen many of these Magnas with a 4 Cylinder engine haha. But yeah it is really good on fuel and hasn't let me down yet. Not sure how big the fuel tank is on, I might have a look through the owners manual when I go out to the car next and see if it says in there.
I got myself one of these for a run around a few weeks ago.
V6 advance,elec windows,cruise,cold ac.
Paint is shot to the shit but its straight.
has rego till Sep 2012,has 309,000 on the clock but has just had the timing belt done as well as new alt and rocker cover gasket(front).
Cost me $1,000 as is.
Just realised i dont have those cup holders in mine, just a shallow tray.
Are we there yet?
Oh yeah, I always wondered what the difference between the Executive and the Advance was. The cup holders always are useful haha.
Yours sounds pretty good, and you got it for a good price as well. Mine has faded paint on the roof and bonnet and a few dents it it, but for just an everyday car its good, and drives good.
Mine is gold and just about every panel is faded.I got it from a friend that had it for about 8 years.Seats were filthy so i pulled them out,hit them with degreaser and pressure washed them.Came up a treat.
I got myself some Gmax 17s that will fit it(free, with tyres)but the with the standard wheel nuts i cant get anything on it to tighten them up.
Just running black steelies until i get it sorted out.
Hey i might just sell the thing too.
Are we there yet?
1 window regulator new supplied from mitsubishi? wait for it:
$750 plus gst
snap.
Yeah I know, parts cost heaps more for this then they would for my Berlina or Statesman.
I needed both the windscreen washer jets, got a quote from Mitsubishi: $30 each, so I didn't worry about it. Electric antenna from Mitsubishi $450, no thank you haha, I got one from Repco for $130. Thats why I would recommend to stick with Holden or Ford, the parts are easier to get and are cheaper. It's harder to find parts for this Magna, and if I can get them, the price is too high.
yeah its a generic mitsubishi thing rotors for an evo 8 are 2 grand, cats are just over a grand, other than that you cant fault their cars really (except shite turning circles on EVERY model)
Hey,
That's a nice choice of car for a daily. MY father has an 05 one that he wants to sell soon. They are quite strong cars considering it could tow my SR5. I was just wondering, does by any chance your radio still play CD's??
Oh yeah that is very true, the turning circle is bad haha. But like you said, you can't really fault the cars and I can't see any problems occurring anytime soon with it, it runs really good, comfortable ride (because its not lowered haha), good on fuel. I'm happy with it, for now anyway.
Thanks mate, yeah I like the colour of it as well. And no it doesn't play CD's, thats one of the things I don't like about it. I was thinking of getting a CD Player out of a later model Magna and seeing if I could get it to work, but I would have to find out more about it. I don't want to really buy an aftermarket head unit, because thats why I bought this car, its stock so there is no reason for someone to break into it (nothing to steal).
But on the plus side, it has the "CD Input" plug on the front of the head unit so I can plug my iPod into it (just doesn't charge the battery), I use a cable with 3.5mm plugs on each end, plug it into the radio and the headphone port of the iPod and it plays the music through it.
So you use the AUX input....MY setup is a black adapter that plugs into the car charger with two USB ports on the back of it. I plug my normal iPhone charging wire into that and plug the other end into the phone ( obviously) then I plug the AUX wire into the phone and stereo. But this is in my other Ute (2009 Holden Colorado)
Dual USB Car Charger Adaptor for iPod iPhone 12V Outlet | eBay
This is the USB adapter I'm on about
Well, i got my cup holders today.Pick-a-part for $10
Are we there yet?
Oh yeah I see what you mean, I should be able to do the same thing then. I might get one so then I can charge the iPod/iPhone as well while listening to the music, then it wont flatten the battery.
I like the Colorado Utes, if I ever decide to get a 4X4 ute, i'm going to get one of those.
