I have no idea if this little car will get any love on this forum, thought i would chuck it up anyway!

I bought this as my VZ got written off by a drunk driver, :'( But im back! with about 1/4 of the power.

Anyway, what i have below is copied directly from another forum post of mine, so yeah it might not make sense, basically today was its maiden voyage as me being the owner!

Took it from Toowong > Indroo > Mt Cootha > City > My gravatt > City > Toowong > Indroo > Toowong, So i did quite the loop! A good solid 1 - 2 hours of cruising just to make sure everything works.

It didnt miss a beat the whole way, on the mountain or on the freeway, the little tc just chugged along nothing fast or serious just nice and consistent. The only thing that is wrong with it is the temp gauge isnt working :'( So im thinking of having a look at that, however i would say its buggered. Apart from that though! no oil lights came on, didnt run out of fuel, makes no weird noises and i cant hear parts falling off! So its perfect, fair to say i love this little thing.

Oh and couldnt go all the way to cootha without my camera, just some shots :)

Yeah,

This particular car itself was bought off the showroom floor by an older gentleman who himself was a mechanic! So it looks to have been well maintained. He put a few little extras on it, theres a kill switch hidden under the dash that stops everything in its tracks, as well as what appears to be a system of electronic ignition which you can switch between the original; points system and the electric, though i havent got around to testing - and probably fixing - that system yet.

Then in late 2007 early 2008 a lady bought it from him (for 4k or so) and spend close to $3000 in repairs and getting everything replaced such as bushes and brake pads, brake cylinders and all that kind of jazz, was put back on road in 2008 and between then and until last week it was only driven 5000km!

So then she bought a bmw, i came along threw in an offer or two and walked away with it a week later!

I now own two of these, the second one is a bit sadder at the moment in about 10000000 pieces in my garage being repaired/engine rebuild possibly 13b bp rotary soon!

Hope everyone likes a bit of a flashback! :D

Well, I bought it last week and was telling myself 'Do nothing, leave it alone. Don't touch a single thing, its original and nice.'

But just then I installed oe of those fm transmitters for your phone, and by install i dont just mean plug it into the lighter socket, i actually hardwires it into my ignition, hid all the leads and have the transmitter just on the dash. So much for not touching it!

All in all i have changed leads, plugs, fluids, added the fm transmitter, going to get new whitewalls and tyres (i have another set of white walled tyres already, just have to get my ass into gear and get the onto the rims) and then! I will stop. I hope. I want it bone stock original with a FEW modern highlights, like the ability to listen to any music etc. If i get really keen i will do a complete hidden install of an amp + sound system but probably not.

Maybe in 12 months i might lower it a couple of inches..... but for now its a granny spec cruiser :D

Sounds good, I think you need to put newer bits in it to an extent. Certainly a well concealed sound system, no subs or anything, just super epic speakers :D

But yes, keep it in factory condition, she's already a classic (maybe not to collectors and ****, but it's a 37 year old car, so it's gonna be worth it to keep). I can only imagine how good it'll be to drive in a few years as all these 90's cars work their way off the road - it'll be a completely different generation of vehicle.

Exactly what i was thinking, concealed amp and A few type r alpine splits. I have one speaker at the moment centred in the front infront of the gear stick directly under the dash, as well as one in the back boot lid. So its not to bad sound, but i might update it.

And yeah in 5 - 10 years time, its going to be the greatest sight to see driving it around :D And im going to love to drive it.

That was my second car !! Same colour, same hubcaps, but no louvres. I drove one around Australia 4 times in the late 70s. Rotary is good, or if you can pick up a 1.4l from a late 70s 323 it will bolt straight in, big performance gains on the original 1.3L for very little cash. I also chucked a set of alloy 5 slot mags on it, with 'fat' 185/60/13 tyres. The only other cosmetic change was that I removed all the vertical bars from the grill (with a pair of pliers lol, came out neat and easy) so the grill only had horizontal bars instead of the egg crate look.

Great little car, I miss my 808. I also had a coupe version, it was a cool car.

I had a pair of 6x9's in the rear tailgate, subs for cars didnt exist back then. They sounded pretty good though, the cavity was just about perfect for the speakers.

Great pickup, treat it well and it will never let you down.

This ones staying bone stock for now! It has matching engine and numbers at the moment, so no dropping in any more engines.

I actually have two of these little beasts :D If anyone is interested i can post pictures of my other one as well. Its getting some major engine work done and possibly a rotary.

And yes! I like the coupes, but everyone has them turned into rx3 copies and i much prefer wagons, so this thing is perfect for me.

It brings back soooo many memories, especially being that same burnt orange colour as mine. Mine was a 74, but identical car. I bought it with 12,000 on the clock in 75 and had it for years. The only differences (before I added mags) is that mine didnt have the blinds and didnt have those hideous whitewalls ;) Thanks for sharing :)

The coupe was a great looking car, the RX3 had the same body but some different trims and grill that didnt look as good as the 808. My coupe was a 76, so it had the 1.6L. It was a kind of bright apple green which suited it really well. The later model 1.4 from a 323 had more grunt though, and just bolted in.

The wagon was the first car I ever kept for a long time, it actually left me with a preference for wagons that has never left me. Someone stole the coupe :(

And yes I am interested in seeing pix of the other one..
