I think your opels are the same as Vc commies, but 83 is early Vh?
shes a 79,South african assembled wagon, factory 283 chev (now changed to 350) has completely different chassis rails to a normal commie and runs what looks like a camoro steering box on the inside gaurd under the brake booster - this is becuase the chev starter sits where the standars steering rack is

it used to have the opel lights ect and be left hand drive, but we liked the vc lights better, and lhd with tunnel ram can be a bit dodgy lol

ok, here's my new car. Got it on monday, still trying to fire it up.
It's a real mess, having had several different engines litterally tossed into it. And in the middle of what i am sure is enough ''custom'' wireing for at least 3 engines, i'm trying to figure out whats wrong,

Sporty seats and black velour for my wagon

Got dammit mustang! This is Ghost Rider 117, this bogey is all over me. He's got missile lock on me. Do I have permission to fire?

    p.s.

Hey, thanks for the link! I know another guy that ordered a full bush kit from whiteline to his Rekord, they all fit well, so i don't think theres much diffenrence at that point. The Holden parts are most likely somewhat more robust.

The problems is that the authorities are very strict with documentations.
for example if i am to put a v8 in the car, i'd have to get brakes that fit and that either Opel or TüV(german aproval laboratories) have deemed them appropriate for the car, and for the ammount of hp.
Then i'll need papers proving the car itself can handle the weight and torque of the engine... And since noone has ever done this mod. in europe(at least not that i know of), theres really are no such papers.

So i'm planning to get hold of a smaller aluminium v8, and hopefully they will let it slide.

But thats way in the future.
if the cars are very similar to their Australian counterparts, could you not get some documentation that says "the 4 door version of this car, which has the same chassis had a 5.0 litre v8 fitted from the factory" ?

also, if everything is very similar, then you might be lucky and be able to upgrade the brakes very easily. Have a look at http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-HOLDEN-CO...QQcmdZViewItem

    Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Our early commodores (vc-vh) have 173, 186, 202, straight 6's. and 253 and 308 V8's fitted factory.

Those brakes looks awsome. And cheap too
If i am right, these are mercedes brakes, that are used in some high class opel brake kits too... They sure look like them.

Can anyone measure the distance between the bolts on their calipers? Would be nice to know if it's the same

I'm learning so much about Commodores in here. It's nice to know you can still pick up brand new parts ''down under''

i'll see what i can do about finding you some measurements! give me time over the weekend.

Do the 88-92 model opels (equivalent to our vn/vp range) come with a digital dash like that?

if so - how much do they cost?

    Hey? found anything yet? =)

Yep, they do come with a digital dash

    http://cgi.ebay.de/Digital-Tacho-LCD...QQcmdZViewItem

I have no idea if they'll fit, tho.

I tought i'd might post a pic of my daily driver too, '95 Opel Omega V6

I haven't really done anyting to it, i changed to dark headlights and side blinkers.
I'll have change one door and repaint the car due to rust and poorly done work from older repaints... And to whoever dented my rear fender: #@£¤##&%!!

The only problem i got nowadays is money, as usual =) I think theres a hole in my bank account, cause money seems to be escaping

Hmm, are these more or less the same? bottom one is a vb v8, anyone know the dimensions?

The IRS used in the VQ-VS Commodores was very similar to that used in the early series Opels. (I think many of the Holden IRS parts were originally Opel). The IRS floorpan was different to the live axle set-up in early Commies.

I haven't seen it done, but I imagine you could cut the IRS rear floor from a VQ-VS and adapt it to the VB-VL body, then fit the IRS.

The one that brock did was based off the opel, so it wouldn't have been that hard.
