Please excuse the poor english in the following post.
Hey! I thought i'd post some pics of my old opels here, since they have so much in common with the Holdens :>
For starters, Opel Rekord E is the ''basic'' upper mid-range Opel made from '78 to '86 with a big facelift '83.![]()
Now, the Opel Commodore C is basicly the same car as Rekord, only it has a rougher chassis and the front end of it's bigger brother Senator.
The Commodore C is more or less the same as Holden Commodore VB, if i'm not mistaking, whereas the later holden models are similar to the Opel Senator. (distinguished by the rear quarter window behind the rear doors.
But now over to my cars. I'm warning you, tho: THESE ARE WORKS IN PROGRESS!![]()

I'm gonna start with my main focus and ''pride'' *cough* At least it will be so whatever decade i finish it.
My '78 Opel Rekord 3 door Caravan
It's a rust bucket of dimensions... But i'm doing my best to fix it.![]()
I'm going to modify it somewhat with new interiors, a newer 16 valve 2.0l from Opel and chassis from Opel Commodore.
The government is very strict when it comes to modifying cars here in Norway, so you can't really slam any engine in it without documentation...
a little mock-up just for fun![]()
Warning: WORK IN PROGRESS.
This is my second car, a Rekord E 2 door '82
This one is just waiting for me to finish with the first one, but i managed to lower it (black&decker) and put on a little plastic.
As said, it's basicly just collecting dust in a corner
ARGH! Someone covered it with Ford parts!!!
I'm gonna have to clean i toroughly before i use it the next time. eeeeewwwwwww.![]()

I actually hope to put a V8 in it. But it's gonna be hard to get it street legal![]()

Nice mate, that Monza looks tough. What V8's did the Opels come out with?
I'm sorry to say, but Opel only has a very few V8 cars![]()
there's a 5.4l chevy engine delivered in Opel Diplomat v8
And thats about it, actually![]()
On Trade ME NZ there is a wagon similar to the VB with a factory 350 and there is an Opel senator for sale also(VN style).
I like that 2 door wagon,Where you from?
Thats different good to see something like this to show how the basic same car was changed for different countrys. all the best with fixing them up.![]()
Hmmm very interesting, good luck with them.
Hey, those are pretty cool. Certainly a lot different from the Aussie versions. (We only have 4 door sedans, and Wagons with 4 doors.)
It would be cool to see one of those in Australia.

Yeah, and what model commodore would the monza be? VK? Or is it a different car altogether?

A german back packer bought a vn wagon v6 and he says it pisses all over his mate vn type of opel over there
The Opel Rekord was only delivered with 4 sylinder, The Commodores and Senators had 6 sylinder engines.
Opel monza is in fact a coupé version of the opel senator. Designed to replace the earlier Opel Commodore coupés.
i'm no Holden professor, but I think VK is more or less the same car as Senator. Independent rear suspension.
The Monza will arrive tomorrow(monday). It's in a pretty bad condition, so i think i'll pick it apart... I don't feel good about it, tho. It's not so many left..
Anyone know where you can get harder bushes for the VB-VH Commos? I know whiteline used to have them, but i cant find it in their catalog any more...
to my knowledge the VK didnt have IRS
i believe this was introduced as and option on the VN's or later (to vr, as the vs definatly had IRS)
Opel Rekord = UK's Vauxhall Cavalier
Came out with a pretty weak 4 cyl motor but also had 6's in upper spec and newer models. They share a hell of a lot with the VB-VK range in a lot of different aspects.
I am recounting knowledge from when I was a kid here so if its wrong, ah well it happens.
I'd like to see a RB30ET going into one of those 2 door Rekords - hey its still a 6![]()
Close!
Vauxhalls version of the Rekord is the less-than-average looking droop-snoot Carlton.
The Cavalier is equivalent to Opels Ascona/Manta. Wich for info shares chassis with the piazza.
And yea, the 4 cylinder is pretty daft, but i doubt a big gas-guzzling engine would be a big hit in europe in the 70's
Nissan engine? O.o
Maybe i should modify it with a Ford Sierra front too...

Japanese scientists have created a camera with such speed that they now can photograph a woman with her mouth shut!
I remember in the mid to late 80's when the Opel Manta first hit the roads they were so popular in Scotland, they were everywhere.
Its funny you show the Sierra front end because we dont have them over here yet the other day I saw a Sierra Cosworth 4x4 at a local garage - very rare out here.
I think the Nissan 6 would be a good transplant, whether its the 25, 26 or 30 varient - I prefer the 30's but thats coz I have one![]()
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/COMMODORE-NOL...QQcmdZViewItemAnyone know where you can get harder bushes for the VB-VH Commos?
presumably, if the bushes fit, then the engine crossmember is the same dimensions
if it is, you should look into nissan RB30ET conversionfrom the VL commodore, all crossmembers are interchangable from VB, all the way until VS commodore. - so you have a very big range of engine choices!
even a skyline motor (rb26dett) should be easily fitted. should not be too hard to get legal, as engine is new, with good emission controls etc?

Are those model opels popular where you live?

i know south africa has the senators that look like a vc
Hey, thanks for the link! I know another guy that ordered a full bush kit from whiteline to his Rekord, they all fit well, so i don't think theres much diffenrence at that point. The Holden parts are most likely somewhat more robust.
The problems is that the authorities are very strict with documentations.
for example if i am to put a v8 in the car, i'd have to get brakes that fit and that either Opel or TüV(german aproval laboratories) have deemed them appropriate for the car, and for the ammount of hp.
Then i'll need papers proving the car itself can handle the weight and torque of the engine... And since noone has ever done this mod. in europe(at least not that i know of), theres really are no such papers.
So i'm planning to get hold of a smaller aluminium v8, and hopefully they will let it slide.
But thats way in the future.
