I've had a love affair with the old 910 for quite some time (first ever car i drove was a s3 910)
So when a mate of mine said his dad wanted a slab for his old bluebird because it had been sitting around for a while and had a snapped axle, i jumped at the chance.
Got some mates together and went and looked at it, decided it was worth it and snapped her up
The guy ended up just giving it to us, didnt care.
Spent a while trying to get her running that night, battery was dead flat and even when we tried to push start it, no go.
Parked it for the night and came back the next morning.
Got it into the light of day, and my god is it an ugly colour :P
Stuck another battery in it, still no start. No spark this time. Turns out it had an insane amount of immobilisers in it. Bypassed them all, figured out it had a killswitch on top of it all, bypassed that and voila. She ran, quite well in fact. Went for a quick spin (of car and wheels and other things :P), after being told so often that it had a snapped axle, it turned out to be fine... No idea what he was on about.
Here's where we decided to actually do something with it rather than just paddock bash, and stripped it down, intending to make something that would be fun for the calder drifts.
After some idle troubles and a $551 visit from the TMU we decided it was time to move it. Thats when things got a bit out of hand...
The result:
Then... We hit a snag.
Blew the headgasket, cracked the head, stripped the motor down, cylinder 4 was destroyed.
Motor was a throw away.
Yay.
So we headed off to pinch a part so see how cheaply we could get another L20, maybe an L18 head... And the first and only thing we saw was a freshly dropped in S13 Silvia Q. So in a lightning dash to get it out before it closed on a public holiday, We Got a near complete (missing Coil packs and turbo) CA18DET Red Top with complete body loom/engine loom and ECU, all manifolds and accessories, MAF sensor and intake piping. For a grand total of $225 with a warranty.
Got the front seats from it too because lets face it, the old GX seat is no racing seat :P
Picked up some R31 Brakes and swaybar while we were there too.
Big difference over the old one:
Nissan interchangeability is fun
