Just bought it today. It's a 1997 model Mitsubishi Lancer. Has minor dents but a lot of stone chips and scratches but for a cheap first car, who cares. Manual of course but has 280,000kms on the clock. The dealer said the engine and gearbox were both redone so hopefully no problems for a while. Came with a full 12 month warranty though. So overall for $3000, I'm happy with it.

****in awesome man.
love the little lancers.
drop it to the weeds and a decent set of wheels on it will be good.
i still reckon you would have got a decent commo for that money. but all the best to ya.
whats the future plans for it?
lol thats pretty good price my mate paid 10000 for his lol about 2 years ago but better condition and less k's obviously nice pick up
MY VY SV8 HBD http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...y-sv8-hbd.html
I'm unsure about plans because I get the Berlina once I get my green P's. I'm going to get a pair of pioneer 6x9's. Don't know how I'm going to mount them as the mounting holes are for 6"ers. I only want the 6x9's so I can transfer them to the Berlina when I get it and I have a $50 JB HiFi voucher that would help.
I'm trying to save most of my cash for the Berlina because I have plans for that plus, my parents don't want me to do much to it for resale reasons.

6x9s sound the best in boxes.
will look like **** but who cares.
whats your budget for audio gear?
I'm trying to keep audio gear to a minimal but I have a $50 voucher for JB Hifi so I was going to use that to help. I'm aiming at around maybe $150 for the 6x9's and I'm not really interested in much more than that. I'm thinking of getting a screen but don't want to fork out $1200 for it. Waste of money for that price no matter how good it is.

oh whats that???, mr i pay people out that used to drive lancers, now look who driving one. haha
nah its all good, there a nice car, dont worry about the k's just service it regulary and you will be right, its hard to kill those motors,
im assuming its the 1.5??? bit of a nugget but does the job, also get rid of that airbox and stupid intake near the battery, livens them up a bit.
if your need any parts let me know i have a few in my garage
lol! It was a big step up though. I'll be taking that step once I get my green P's and finally get the Berlina full time.
I'm trying to keep it pretty stock because its just a 4 banger and will probably be selling in a couple of years but will try the airbox 'mod'. If it doesn't work I can always put back on.
So far no problems with it, well none that have come up since I bought it. I still need to change the tappet gasket and replace the timing belt for good measure. There was a rattle in the front right wheel arch so I took the tire off, hit things around with a rubber mallet and put the wheel back on, and now it's gone. So if it doesn't work, hit it with a hammer.
The gearbox is nice and smooth for its age and has more punch than I would have thought. If you learn manual, learn in a lancer![]()
A Commodore is a passion. Anything else is just a car
yeah make sure the timing belt is done, does cost a little bit in labour because they have to undo a engine mount, but its cheaper then if it let go, but saying that i let mine go 40,000k's over due and didnt have a problem,
the other belts are easy to change,
one other thing that seems to be a problem(well sort of) one of the bearings in the clutch get a bit noisey or loose or something, so when your not moving with your foot on the clutch it doesnt make a noise, but if you let the clutch out in neutral it makes a knocking/tapping noise, heaps of them do it, and i have never heard of it actually causing a problem(besides the noise), so basicly its not worth worrying about, mine had it for the 100,000k's i owned the car without a problem.
oh ok. We're getting the belt done for free because my dad does our mechanics electrical work for free in exchange for our mechanics done either free or mates rates. My dad's an electrician.
This car has 280XXX kms on it and still no knock or any strange noises. It's running fine. The rear right tail light died today though.
A Commodore is a passion. Anything else is just a car
well if the tail light is the only thing wrong with it, i say your doin alright.
your best bet would be to service it, give it a good polish, then just learn how to drive, dont bother spending money on crap that you dont need, save it all for the berlina when you get it.
oh and go show those vtec boys what mitsu's are made of
That's exactly my plan. My dad wants to spray it, just a few coats to get rid of all the stone chips and to give it a bit more shine. He also just bought a good air compressor so he wants to use it. Hopefully it'll come up nice.
I'll be looking for those vtec's. lol..

i bloody reliable thing in all lancers ive found is the bloody heaters boy does it work and ****ing fast mind u BUT WAIT were copping global warming lets all pull our heaters out!!!!
I've driven fast cars I've done stupid shit in them each time i seem to come out on top i love you guardian angel
vp ss 3 months to go
Yeah, for the price it was a great buy.
lol to the guy who wrote his car off in 5 days. He sounds like one of my mates cousins. He just got a new company car, after smashing the last 2, and drove it through a KFC drive-through but the ladder on top went straight through the electric sign, shorted it or something and set the car on fire. Was bloody hilarious.
lol, I haven't needed the heater yet. The weather has been a bit to warm. Good to know though![]()

Stuck this on the other day.

Great choice of first car. The first car I ever drove on public roads was a driving school Lancer, really not a bad car at all, I must admit.
Loving the sticker, too!![]()

sick mate sick subwoofa,
looks nice but i hate NSW number plates, only suit a Yellow BT1![]()
should be easy on the wallet... i swear i spend half my pay on petrol, half my pay on drinks and half my pay on modding my car....
Thanks mate. I'm not a big fan of the plates either but not really worth spending money on to change. I'm only holding the car for 2 years max. Get the family commo when I get my Green P's.

lol.. I'm going to stay well clear of any exhaust mods and most other mods because it's harder to sell an old lancer with mods done to it. Gives people the wrong idea too when I get my P's. I don't want to be seen as the stereotypical P plater.
Tiny update. Just got these. As you can see I haven't got them on the car as yet. Fixed up the twisted seat-belt's too. Both of them were twisted the wrong way.

Now it has central locking soon to be remote central locking. Thinking of putting some mags on it next tyre change.
