more sandblasting, grinding and welding today.
sandblasted, then hit it with some killrust. then i started wedling the rust holes and trim holes. it got a bit thin in a few areas, so i had to chase it, just gotta finish griding it back and weld up any bits that come through. thin film of bog, sand it back and the sills ready for paint.
dad sandblsted that bit of rust on the front window, turn out there was a bubble that we thought was just bog, turned out to be a decent hole. and there was about 3 pinholes along the rusted area. all welded now, just gotta grind back. also burnt some foam hiding up under the pillar area.
LHS door welded and primed. just needs some bog over the rusted area, and the door lock which i took out and welded up.
took RHS door off aswell, will make it easier to fix the rust, and to paint in the door jambs. im removnig door lock on this one aswell, and moving the mirrors forward a bit, which requires welding some old holes up.

Nice work so far mate!
Was watching the Red BMW of urs for a while and i gotta say, this new one is looking ****ing nuts!
cheers renno, yeh, this one i think will be nicer than the red one in the end.
more work today, dad will do some stuff tomorrow, but i wont, gotta bloody work.
welded the rust patch in lhs rear quarter behind wheel, welded mirror holes up on drivers door, so i can reposition the new mirrors, welded clip holes in rhs door sill and grinded back ready for sandblasting
got the right hand side lower area painted bar the sill, which needs sandblasting and smoothing still. and we gotta respray the quarter just behind the door, had the gun on full pressure and it copped a bit much and ran(forgot to bother hooking up the regulator)
lower bit of back is painted aswell, and top section is smoothed of all holes, ready for paint.
and left hand side was still drying, so couldnt sand it back today.

yay for long weekends(with some half decent weather for a change!!)
between today and yesterday, both sides, front and back lower is now all grey. lhs lower door is grey, rhs door i took about 1/2kg of bog out of and is almost ready for some grey.
got rear sides primed ready for paint tomorrow, painted rear center area and boot seal area.
primed and waiting
whole things definately gonna need a redo in blue, this is what its "supposed" to look like, much more blue than the old crap that was put on it.
speaking of old crap, some masking tape decided to peel off a section of old paint with ease
oh, and i got what i think is the last rusty hole welded today. still some surface rust hiding under the carpet, but i'll deal with that when i rip the sound deadener out(after rego)
repainting whole car now?
that blue looks very blue compared to original paint

will be leaving bonnet, front guards and roof til after rego.
main reason most of its getting done now is from repairs in those areas, and the last paint job was so shit, that trying to said it down, it wouldnt feather, just break away.
ah well might as well do it all now and save urself the trouble down the track.
lol i know cause u let it go to hell since lowwags2 was supposed to be finished almost a year ago![]()
Just noticed... LOVE the door hinges!!! haha... they are basically the same as I had on my old fj40!!
Coming along good mate...
Should look awesome finished!
haha yeh, theyre basic as hell, but theyre friggin strong!! in 32 years, the welds havent budged, and the hinges are still nice and solid. only thing broken is the door straps, but it still does its job at stopping the door before going too far.
coffee break atm, then back to it. letting a door dry before putting it outside to prime the other door, then when theyre both drying, we'll throw some colour on the car
quick teaser, definately finishing the paint before too long. waaaaaaaaaay different!!
back to it
