yay for less rust to work on. here it is, my $400 special.

theres heaps less rust on this one, most of it is surface rust. rear side windows have some rust, unsure til i take them out. both doors, left one is shocking, so thatll get replaced with a red one which has minor rust, right one has a small bit on the front that can be fixed easily.

im swapping the bonnet for the red one, as its all crazed and theres bog on it in a few spots and is beginning to rust on the underside. the red one just has a ding which ill fix up.

other than that, i need to swap the red brakes onto it, because one of the booster/master thingos is leaking(its got a crazy dual booster setup on the left hand side, as opposed to the remote single booster on RHS on the red one) and i'll swap the stock bilstein struts into it, because the fronts are leaking.

also needs new seats, anyone got some sweet old recaros kicking around?

see HERE for list of mods to be done/already done that will make their way onto this car, since its replacing the red one.

pics time(be patient, as i post this im capped, and any other time, my internet isnt that fast)

gotta love the sportmax wheels, put them on, then gave it a quick bath

bog and peeling paint, dont think they primed it or anything before painting

rust in the door, all along the bottom edge

slight ding on back wheel arch, will clean up and bog this, cbf making it pretty(might not even bog yet)

can see bubbles of rust, itll be worse under the trim

speakers in doors, that big blue strip at the bottom is mdf, thats gotta go, might paint the trims from red one and put on. has speakers and i think a mdf sheet on parcel shelf too

dash is clean, different to red one. i like this one better. stereo will go

holes been cut in seat back, unsure why, predone weight reduction

hole from antenna, gotta weld this sucker up

original plates he had in the shed for it, couldnt say no!!

bbs wheels that it came with, 14" or ida kept them, on ebay they go

    ROFL @ the title.

Good pickup. Love the wheels, What colour will you be painting it when it's done? The red on the other one had grown on me.

And half those pics don't work....

    They all work now.

Looks good! (apart from rust) looks nasty in the quarter window area.

colour is quite soothing, hope this 1 doesnt come with any surprises.... eg non-existant floor pan due to rust....

    Good luck!!

PS: Those wheels are quite sexual!

    the wheels are very sexual!!

looking from underneath, the floor pans look good. i ripped the carpet up on passenger side and there was some water, but its only recent and is sitting on the sound deadener. car has been garaged since he stopped driving it.

the brakes are probably the most annoying thing, since i'll have to change them twice, once to drop in the working red ones setup and second when i get the boosterless setup completed

moved it into the shed today and started pulling some parts off.ripped the rear side windows and trims out, along with rear seat(mainly to check inside of window area for rust)

theres 2 places where rust has penetrated through and theyre tiny, rest is all surface rust, so wont take much to fix up the window areas.

car seems to be running better today even, poor thing hasnt been run in a while though. should have this thing registered pretty quick by the looks.

start swapping brake system over tomorrow.

Excellent. That's what I like to hear - progress!

Also glad the car's mostly there, and you won't have to peel away the rust and rebuild half the thing

Good to hear you're making good progress.

Sooner you get it regoed the sooner you can get the SR20 in there. What a sleeper.

yeh, its gonna be on the road pretty quick.

for rego i think i need:

-basic service, oil, filters, tappet adjustment
    -fix rust in doors
-new lhs mirror(broke it today trying to pop it out to push out a dent)
-fix loose seats/drop in new ones
    -brakes
-maybe fix split in rear muffler
-couple bubbly bits of rust around tail light area(theyre nothing, drill it out, weld, grind, paint)
-new front window seal(yay for mastik sealed windows, these suckers just pop in and out, no sikaflex!!)
-chuck the old 323i shocks in all round

once its registered, heres most likely the way things will go

    -drop in coilovers
-remove deadening, stick in thinner carper
    -boot mounted battery
-make boosterless brakes work and drop them in
    -sr20
    -fresh coat of paint(same colour)

there will most likely be other stuff in between though.

dunno about beemers, but bimmers arent too bad. being such an older model doesnt make it easy, but if you shop around, prices are pretty reasonable. theres always going to be odd parts that cost a fortune, purely because theyre big or dont break often.

performance parts for this car are almost non-existant and motor hot up parts i wouldnt bother in aus(hence dropping in the sr). in retrospect, i should have gone the e30, but the e21 looks a hell of a lot nicer than the e30 and is lighter from memory.

You could just use the mirrors off the red one (you're gonna be swapping the door over anyway).

ahh shut up, your left testicle will explode when you come for a drive in it when its done!!

stripped some more stuff off it today, towbar, rear bumper.

then we started sandblasting the rust on the windows and around boot, theres about 10 pinholes on the left side, which will weld up and grind down easy, and one on right side, other than that, its all jsut a bit pitted. so we threw some rustkill on it and will just paint it up next weekend.

might start pulling some brake stuff off later when it cools down some more.

couple pics of the work today

rear end stripped, some surface rust around tail light buckets, sandblasted off and primed.

little bit of rust near wheel arch, this was hiding jsut below the bumper, quick patch job will fix that

and both side window sections covered in rustkill
