what happened at the F1 in US? i heard something about only 6 cars running...
can someone shed some light?
Michelin tyres could not gaurantee their tyres would be safe on a banked curcuit at 300kph so all michelin shod cars pulled out .
In one of the last turns in the track, the force on the left rear tyre at the high speed was hugh. Michelin actually brought the wrong set of tyres to the race. The reason for that was that they did not count on the resurfaced track (which was done earlier in the year) would be so rough. The grip of the tyres they brought were no problem but it was the particullar strength of the sidewalls. F1 rules state that you are only allowed to bring 2 different types to a track. Even though they knew about the problem early, they would be breaking the rules by having more tyres sent over.
After a couple of blow outs and one serious crash in practise and qualifing, Michelin issued a statment to say there tyres were unsafe and recommended that the cars not race. As safety was of primary concern all but the Bridgestone teams pulled out, as much as they would have liked to race.
There was discussion into putting in a chicanne in to slow the speeds at the danger end but that would of needed another set of practise for all cars to get used to the difference - another safety point. It was also not fair to do this as it would disadvantage the Bridgestone teams that had adheared to the rules the whole time and done their practises accordingly.
Bit of a balls-up alltogether.
Screw the Bridgestone teams (read Ferrari). Minardi and Jordan were prepared to allow the change in the track - Ferrari were not because they want to be in the FIA's good books. The Michellin teams apparently offered to run either like this or with safer tyres specially flown in and in doing so not score any points so as at least there would be a race. Ferrari said no to this as well as the FIA and so for the sake of scoring a few political points they both ****ed up any chance of F1 having any credibility in North America. I could go on for ages about all this political crap that's going on this year of which this is a part of, but who needs the headache. Although I suggest anyone who is seriously interested in where this sport is headed might want to watch Neil Crompton on RPM this Sunday arvo - no doubt he'll put it in laymans terms that everyone can understand.Originally Posted by Slooth

It was a little sad to see it happen, still ... FERRARI 1 2!
:P Too easy.
I don't use windscreen wipers, i just use the superior handling of the STI to dodge the rain drops.
seems like the only the shoo maker will cop a win this season is by doin a steven bradbury![]()
Haha, it's still a gold medal :P.
I'm not sure what's wrong with the Ferrari's this year, in a few races now Schuey has had massive pace during the middle stint.
Last week in Canada, Barrichello came from 20th to finish 3rd. Yes there was a bit of bradbury action going on but he still would have gained a good 13 positions if there weren't any big name retirements.
I don't like all these new rules, 1 tyre for the whole race, 1 engine a weekend, less downforce... They're killing the sport with all these regulations.

It was absolutly ridiculous what happened in america and it is gonna be interesting with what happens at the next meeting in france.
The Michellin teams will shit it in - Magny-Cours is Michellins testing ground so look foward to Ferrari being at the back![]()
Haha that's if any of the Michelin teams run.
You can never count Mickey Schu out, he's always lurking in a dark alley/pit lane somewhere :P...

Was reading into it a bit more and apparently there is talk of the michelin cars not running at france if they get fined from the the fia for not participating in america.
It'd be the only way Ferrari could win back to back races this year, and seemingly the only way HRH Schumacher can win at all this year - hopefully Rubens will grow some balls and take him off for a change...
Verdict from the FIA meeting was the Michelin teams were found guilty of 2 of the 5 charges they were up for. The good news for F1 fans was that no penalty has been handed out. The penalty will be decided in September so all teams are free to run this weekend in France.
I've always liked Rubens, I always thought he had a lot of talent that was wasted on second place.Originally Posted by perkins
I reckon if Rubens was with a team that respected him a little more as a driver and gave him a little more freedom, he would have been a star.
I like Schuey, he is without a doubt one of the greatest drivers of all time, but I'm a Ferrari Fan, I couldn't care less who was winning as long as they're winning in a Ferrari. I want to see Yarno (SP?) Trulli and Giancarlo Fischichella (haha sp?) in Ferrari's. 2 Italian's in an Italian beast, would be a dream come true.

I think one of Ferrari's main policies is NOT to have Italian drivers for various reasons, can't think of them right now though. Thats what I've heard, correct me if I'm wrong!
Back in the hope things have settled down...
I work with a few Italians and I think Ferrari might have that policy because of the way their countrymen fail under pressure if the guys I work with are anything to go by. Things get bussy the pressure starts and soon it's time to crack the shits. By the way it's woth noting Ferrari's race team is run by a Frenchman (arrogant pig) a few poms, and even Schuey's engineer is an Aussie (from HRT).Originally Posted by fourstar82

I Hope Webber makes the most of the Williams Michellin despite there few dramas, Did you hear about sauber and them changin 2 BMW? Max Mosley needs 2 go bring bak the old rules, it seems that some teams are having trouble finding these rules hard 2 take. Im sure Alonso will get beaten one day just like shu did! GO Webber for 2005!!!!

in the pre race ramble they do, it was mentioned that one of the teams may source their engines from Ferrari next year, Williams i think, it was defienately a Michellain team, which will make things very interesting!

I Agree with the Rubens Comment he never seems 2 get a fair go but Schumacher has always been the centre of attention @ Ferrari since he came from bennaton. Are well what can ya do.Originally Posted by MoSkA

Hey guys do u think of Williams worst round so far since Canada last year? Is this panic time @ the team or just roblems and concerns because of engine manufacture for next year?![]()
Mark Webbers Comments after the Race:
“My race was hampered today by a huge problem I had with heat in the ****pit area. It became so intense that I had to ask for some water to be poured in around my seat at the pit-stops. It was very uncomfortable to race in that condition and as a result, I now have a large raw burn on my right hip which the doctor has treated. The race itself was difficult, because after starting from poor grid position, we were struggling at the back of the pack. We have a lot of work to do.”![]()
Webber:
Webber ****pit heat, believed to be transmitted from the skid-blocks on the underside of the chassis - Things didn't help webber whenwater poured down the back 2 cool him down but he still needed 2 seek medical attential for burn marks :b: .
Heidfeld:
Problems with Handling and 6 pit stops was not the thing Williams needed along with Webbers troubles. Altought he did finish the race in 14th place.

I see now the other drivers in the GP drivers assoc. are calling for him to step down as their chief. Apparently he refused to sign their letter of support for Michellin and the 7 teams on the grounds that it was 'a technical isssue not a safety issue'(!!!) and he has also failed to back up DC who has allegedly been threatened by Max Mosely after his comments and actions in the US. I hope they do piss the FIA and Mosely off and form their own comp -they don't need Ferrari (which is what the F in FIA now stands for apparently) either.
Whoa Whoa Whoa slow down, if there's a team F1 doesn't need it's Minardi, or Red Bull... These guys slow the races down.
New rule: You get lapped, you leave the race track.
It would be interesting to see F1 leave the FIA behind, I think if the Teams ran the shop it'd be much better racing.
You seem to have a lot against Schuey, what are you? A Karthikaien(SP?) fan?
I'm all for the racing being faster, but at this rate F1 will end up being like the Champ Cars, I can't watch the champ cars, there's no overtaking and they only overtake when they use the NOS.
Silverstone pissed me off.
These new aero rules piss me off. The one's which stop cars from gettings within 10m of eachother.
I remember the days of tailgating your opponant down the straight, gettings that slipstream effect and slingshoting infront of them.
