Default New manufacturers to enter V8 Super Cars in 2012.

I was at my GFs place on Saturday for the clipsal (before i had to goto work ><) and her dad chucks a magazine at me and says "read that".

The article was about new manufacturers potentially enter the V8 super cars in 2012, one of which is most likely Mercedes-Benz.

Here's a article i found on the net that pretty much covers what i read in the Mag.

    Germans to join V8 Supercars

    what do you guys think?

Slow news week. Neither merc or BMW would want to jump on the sinking ship that is V8SC

good idea i think a better one is let them run the production motors ie 6l and 5.4 that would be good to watch

it used to be so much more exciting when the drivers were real, the cars were real....like, the 05 Brock commodore had a 5.0 litre v8 in it, just as you'd find in a VH SLX that was so optioned. The XD Falcon had a 5.8 in it. They even had corollas for comic relief, complete with 1600cc motors...nowadays the cars are the same, the drivers are all the same. I honestly could NOT pick winterbottom, ambrose et. al. from a lineup..... brong back group e pproduction car racing....and coz they are a bit slower you get more racing time wise!

Ive been watching with some intrest V8SA future plans . And Im of the same opinion that V8SA are a sinking ship thats reaching for a life boy to save them. Ive attended Bathurst 1000 for 20 plus years and during that time many things have changed but I cant say all for the better.
The fact they require X,s race car drivers to tell them whats good for there sport shows that there completly out of touch .Tony Cocrane dribble has no end. Every events now seems to have some rock concert attached to attract so called new fans.
Its know longer a sport its entertaiment and I will admitt that come the end of 2011 I and many others will walk away as I have know intrest in silouette racing or a form very similar. Its all starting to seem like the mid 80,s (Group A) and our want then to suck up to the international market and we all know where that ended up.
I believe unless we go to a formula like that of the brute ute then this form of V8 racing is doomed.

I think its a good idea....there will always be red v blue, but its time to open up other manufacturers....I am interested in seeing what capacity GM Chevrolet will be involved...or will they stay out and allow Holden to lead the charge...

I work for Mercedes, and from what the boss has told me, Mercedes (AMG) is joining V8 Supercars in 2012.
I've also been told that we are getting their "demo" car of what the 2012 race version will look like, however, I'm am not sure when this car will arrive, I've been told soon.

They will and can do it.

The engine will probably be small capacity of 4.5 litres or something as they are DOHC per bank compared to conventianal push rod style v8's

They can either used our current V8 engine or have restrictions on their quad cam engines.

All the engines in V8SC series soon will be toned down and built less " On the Edge " powerfull engines anyway for cost and reliability reason due to rising costs.

V8SC is just a load of Comercial BS anyway and will die in the ass a slow death anyway, it will never be like the good old Group C racing and its going downhill fast even if it pulls massive crouds of teeny boppers and groupies.

If you've read the COTF requirements, they looking to source completely new engines (ie, they wont be toning the engines down, they'll be getting a different motor (either custom made, or one already being manufactured somewhere around the world)).....

If Merc do join the series for advertising reason they aren't going to come here and just play funny buggers. They are a big serious company and no team we have here is going to be able to match them in development or money (not that there's much left to develop since the rules are so stupid). Anyway lets say Merc do play and they dominate the racing as they would, I doubt that is going to do anything but kill the formula off faster than it's going anyway

Yeah but in saying that, they will just cry parity and the Mercs / BMW will get raped in the butt for weight breaks and aero kits etc etc.

It will be a Farce for ages, Merc will just pull more out of the bag and they will get penalised more and more time after time.

if he mercs were to join they might not have all that much of an advantage, as neither merc or AMG are allowed to participate in events outside of europe? i think it was.
So in other words to run a merc you would get no factory backing whatsoever and unless the cars had a close setups to DTMs they'd struggle for the first few years easily.
but after saying that i did read somewhere that AMG Australasia announced that there wont be any mercs entered at all.
All of the real interest so far has been from Chrysler, toyota, hyundai, daewoo? and another koren based manufacturer.

WILL not happen !. One only has to read the release of V8 Supercars COF statement COF = Car of The Future. the Cars are going to continually change and will only be a shell ( like Nascars ) on a controlled Body. So yes others in the future may enter , but you will find it will be like Arrow or Jordan as per F1 ie development Teams ( my lack of f1's maybe showing , but I think you may understand my point )

At the moment they allow only 28 cars in the race so are some of the present drivers going to be driving the mercs or will they extend the amount of drivers/cars allowed into a race? And Im also a bit pissed off because you need to have digital TV to watch sundays race what is channel 7 thinking? not everyone has digital TV yet.

I find the v8 super cars boring these days and only really watch Bathurst and a few big races. They need to go back to the real racing when you cod race what ever you want weaher it's a jag or commodore or a BMW.. The good old days or many makes and that sorted the real driver out..

Its LIVE on 7Mate, and is on at 11:10pm on the regular channel 7 for those that dont have a digital TV. This is the BEST possible solution, because usually it has to be shown on the main channel first before the other channels, but being that it would be 11pm, is stupid. This is what wasnt done for the winton round i think.

Totally agree mate. It's the best possible outcome, atleast this way the V8's aren't playing second fiddle to the foosball.

If you don't have digital TV, sucks to be you...

Just to clarify for others, by LAW it has to be shown on the main channel first, so this round has been given an exemption to show it on the digital channel. If it didn't happen like this, everyone would miss out and have to wait til 11pm to watch the races...
Was good they finally got the hint of showing it on 7mate for the majority of people who do have a digital tv.

We cant get good digi tv here.. its crap and we have a digi tv in the lounge and when it rains, windy or a storm the reception breaks up and you have to turn it of its that bad.. I just turned it off now and cant even watch the drag bikes on tv.. Digi tv is a scam and normal tv never had a prob here..
