Bit surprised there is no crowing over Holden’s domination of the podium at Bathurst. Is it because we are preaching to the converted? Great end to a pretty good race anyway.
About to sit down amd watch it - I missed 90% of the action yesterday.

Last 10 laps were intense. I was literally on the edge of my seat sweating and shaking.
As much as I love Skaife, I'm definitely a HRT and Tander man.

Group A (and C) for racing totally sucked when you think about it, although many will disagree and have "rose coloured" memories. Just as the parity issues with group A were starting to work out quite nicely between the turbo Sierras and V8 Holdens, Nissan turned up and blitzed. In all honesty the current formula does produce more winners and closer racing than the category has ever seen. That said, I find them as boring as bat shit. I would like to be wrong but really COTF is even less appealing to me. Bring back an improved production type formula (such as Group A) but remove the requirements for manufacturers to produce the evolution specials each year (they simply won't do it anyway).
Another consideration would be using the V8 ute category as a basis - they seem to have parity worked out and the cars are *way* closer to your road going counterparts.
For a spectical though - I love watching the old Group A/C cars going around (not racing this weekend). They are the cars I can relate to.

The thing I take from the fire crash is why was the rear of the car missing - how did it come off?
I think there is a fundamental flaw in the design if the rear panel can just fall of - it should have been rammed through the fuel tank or something like that - not just fall off.
And I dont think it has anything to do with the speed of the hit. Simlpy should not fall off.

The skins of the cars have been the "quick change" type panels for a few years now. Check out Coulthards (??) epic roll at the start of last years race. Many of the panels had parted company when he started to spin and way before he actually hit anything.
Check out the slow-mo at around 1:30. LH/R guard just fell off in the slidehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4UpRdsRnWE, also here at 1:34 - freeze frame: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjoTTf1E_DY

It would be interesting to see Commys and Fords get flogged around Bathurst with tuned variants of the engines they are sold with,. That said I was commenting to my mates yesterday just how bullet proof the current race engines are. I seem to remember a lot more of the Group A/C Touring cars motors “expiring” back in the day. It almost never happens now. Its tyres, or driver error or other mechanical bits that let go. Rarely engines. I wonder how well an LS@ would hold up to 6 hours of relentless flogging? Lol.
being up there it was intense. if you could feel the atmosphere of the whole crowd being on the edge of their seats and cheering non stop near the end, you would have loved it more.
as for the other races, we spoke to one of the ute guys, and they are stock cars, with only things you or i could buy for the cars. nothing too special.
only serious upgrade is the roll cages. which they require. hell even the brakes they use you can get yourself (ap racing).
so the holdens use the 6L. and the fords use the xr8 motor. however the new 5.4L v8 will be coming in for the fords (they tested it there).
also the other support races were just as good, if not even better.
seeing a 4cyl lotus beating an 8.4L viper around the track was just awesome.
those gt3's sounded superb
how about we make the pedals out of sticky rubber and the shoes with steel spikes. at least my shins would like thatOriginally Posted by ari666
