Brocky's Ford ride
FOR any Holden man, let alone legend Peter Brock, the hearse of choice would have a lion emblem on it.
But family, friends and passionate Holden fans may have been shocked to see Brock's casket placed in a Ford as his body was taken from Melbourne airport on Tuesday.
The Holden driver, who died in a rally accident in Perth on Friday, once said "I think I'd prefer to throw up than back a Ford down a driveway" during the height of his rivalry with Ford teams.
Brock's friend and publicist Tim Pemberton said it was ironic he was placed in a Ford hearse, but the racing ace would have seen the funny side.
"Being a guy with a great sense of humour, he would have seen it as quite ironic," Mr Pemberton said.
But the irony will not be repeated at his state funeral on Tuesday.
Funeral directors Tobin Brothers are arranging for Holden hearses.
