Jack Daniel’s Racing has signed leading Holden driver Todd Kelly to head its 2008 V8 Supercar campaign.
Kelly, 28, joins the Larry Perkins-owned team to drive alongside up and comer Shane Price after a decade with the Clayton-based Holden Young Lions, Kmart Racing and Holden Racing Teams.
“A number of things are being considered at HRT which has enabled me to explore all the available options, and after 10 fantastic years I have decided it was time to accept a new challenge,” said Kelly.

ok who do we thinks gonna take his place at HRT?? i reckon skaifey will be retiring within the next couple years cos he is in his 40's now, hopefully tander will go up there or they might take a punt on a younger bloke from the fujitsu championship, like tony d'alberto, who just won the championship or get nathen pretty, who they get to race with them at the enduros, so many good drivers coming up
oh just remembered, wheres russell ingall heading to now?!?! better not be HRT haha
Lets hope Todd can put Larrys cars up where they belong at the pointy end like in the castrol days ...surely with his vast experience and engineering skills he can put up a car that can run with the ford **** that seems to be in abundance when qualifying and race results....although Tander gave us a breath of fresh air ...the results of late (if you take Tander out) have been very very blue.

Tander will go to HRT. Tander has been itching to move for a while because no matter how he drives, he is always second at Toll HSV, because Ricks dad is the owner of Toll HSV. At HRT Tander will get all of the respect and credit that he deserves and i am sure that Skaife will be happy for him to be the "Top Driver", which even though he won the championship, he wouldnt of got at Toll HSV. It think that Skaife and Tander will be an awesome combo, bring on the enduros![]()

* Tander set for Holden switch
The path has been cleared for V8 Supercar champion Garth Tander to join the Holden Racing Team after Todd Kelly today made the switch to Jack Daniels Racing.
Kelly, 28, joins the Larry Perkins-owned team to drive alongside up-and-comer Shane Price after Perkins' son Jack was forced to stand down having recently being diagnosed with type one diabetes.
Speculation is rife Tander, who secured the 2007 championship with Holden's Toll-HSV Dealer Team last weekend, will join five-time champion Mark Skaife at HRT and that an announcement is imminent.
It is also expected Tander will take the No.1 at HRT for the first time since Skaife carried the number as champion in 2002.
"A number of things are being considered at HRT which has enabled me to explore all the available options, and after 10 fantastic years I have decided it is time to accept a new challenge," said Kelly, who spent the last decade with the Clayton-based Holden Young Lions, Kmart Racing and Holden Racing Teams.
"You can't help but grow close relationships with people you work so closely alongside for 10 years so I'm sure I will miss everyone at HRT, but it is time for a change of scenery.
"I couldn't be more excited. There's huge potential in Jack Daniels Racing and Larry has offered me the opportunity to be more involved with the team and cars, which is what I really enjoy.
"The change has already reignited my passion and given me a new lease on life."
It had been rumoured Kelly was offered a seat alongside younger brother Rick at Toll, a team their parents own, but turned it down because he didn't want to compromise the family relationship.
Former Supercheap driver Paul Dumbrell has been linked to the vacant Toll seat.
Of some of the other proposed high profile moves, Russell Ingall, who announced he was leaving Stone Brothers Racing last week, is expected to move back to Holden with Team Sirromet Wines, replacing Owen Kelly.
The SBR seat could go to young Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen, who impressed in his short with Team Kiwi this year, or David Besnard, who had a fulltime drive with SBR from 2000 to 2002 and put on a good show for the team in finishing second alongside James Courtney at this year's Bathurst 1000.
Since his series debut at Eastern Creek in 1999, Kelly made 106 starts, recording 18 individual race and nine championship round wins, including victories in the 2003 Sandown and 2005 Bathurst enduros.
He has finished in the top 10 in driver points in each of his seven fulltime seasons.
"Todd is a driver who has a rare mix of experience and technical ability and we are very happy to sign him," Larry Perkins said.
"He's someone who can contribute to the team and its performance both on and off the track, and he's excited about working with us.
"I think he'll fit in perfectly."
Lets hope this puts the 11 car back at the front of the pack were it belongs.
Spot on, Now i got to say something rude here... I hate this Paul Morris i think his the worst guy on the grid for personality and respect, What he said about Allen Gurr many moons ago at bathurst i think shows who he is. So bingall and dinggall will make a good team.
Rumour is Mark Skaife has already made a Number 1 HRT car.

Release Date: 07/12/2007
The Holden Racing Team (HRT) has announced significant additions to its racing operation and driver line-ups for 2008 to further strengthen its performance.
The reigning V8 Supercar Champion, Garth Tander, will join HRT, while Rob Crawford becomes Team Manager. In addition, Mathew Nilsson will join the team to engineer Garth Tander s car.
These appointments are effective from today (Dec 7).
Tander said he was delighted to be joining the Holden Racing Team and was looking forward to driving with Mark Skaife in 2008.
Having driven with HRT at Sandown and Bathurst last year I know how professional an outfit they are. Hopefully Mark and I can push each other to greater heights next year, he said.
It will also be great to have Rob Crawford as Team Manager and Mathew Nilsson as my car engineer, given the success we have had.
I ll certainly miss the guys who helped me win the championship at the Dealer Team and of course, Rick Kelly, who has been so consistently strong on the track over the last two years.
Mark Skaife welcomed the announcement that Tander would join HRT.
He s a great driver and showed what he is capable of achieving on the track this year, Skaife said.
I personally can t wait to get back on the track early next year knowing the Holden Racing Team line-up on the track and off it
is going to be stronger than ever.
New HRT Team Manager Rob Crawford has spent eight years managing Clayton based V8 Supercar teams including the Holden Young Lions, Kmart Racing, the HSV Dealer Team and latterly the Toll HSV Dealer Team, where he oversaw back-to-back Team and Driver Championship results in 2006 and 2007.
He was also involved with HRT in the 1990s.
I am thrilled with the opportunity to manage the Holden Racing Team, Crawford said.
Current HRT Team Manager Rob Starr will assume an important role within Walkinshaw Racing in 2008, to be announced in due course.
Not only is Garth going to HRT but Rob Crawford will be the new team manager at HRT![]()

Release Date: 07/12/2007
Former V8 Supercar Development Series Champion Paul Dumbrell will join the championship-winning Toll HSV Dealer Team alongside Rick Kelly next season.
Dumbrell, 25, replaces newly-crowned champion Garth Tander who shifts to the Holden Racing Team after three successful years with Toll HSV.
The team also announced that current team Team Engineer, Erik Pender, had been promoted to Team Manager, replacing Rob Crawford who is also transferring to HRT as Team Manager.
Erik’s current role as Rick Kelly’s engineer will be filled by Alistair McVean, from Walkinshaw Performance.
As well, the team has signed an agreement with dual World Touring Cup winner Paul Radisich to return to the team for the 2008 enduros, while also playing a support role throughout the season.
In making the announcements, Team Owners John and Margaret Kelly praised the contributions of Tander and Crawford, saying they had been instrumental in the team’s back-to-back championship successes.
“Garth slotted straight into the team when he arrived three years ago, and formed a formidable combination with Rick (Kelly) and the engineers and crew,” John Kelly said.
“Now that he has ticked the box of the Drivers Championship, we understand why he now wants to take this new opportunity. He goes with our best wishes.”
Kelly also praised the efforts of Crawford, who oversaw the growth of the team from the fledgling Holden Young Lions into Kmart Racing and finally, HSV Dealer Team.
“Rob built the team virtually from scratch, taking it from an off-shoot of the Holden Racing Team into the best team in pit lane,” he said.
“Erik has been his understudy for many years, and we are confident he will have no trouble making the transition.”
Dumbrell, who became the youngest ever driver to race V8 Supercars at the age of 16 years, 11 months and 24 days in 1999, joins Toll HSV from Supercheap Auto Racing.
The Melbourne driver cut his teeth in Formula Holden, where he spent two seasons (1999-2000), before moving to the V8 Development Series in 2001.
He finished a narrow second place in the series to Simon Wills in his first season before taking out the title in his second year.
That same year, he was signed to drive alongside Larry Perkins in the endurance races, coming seventh in the Queensland 500 and fifth at Bathurst.
He raced full-time with Perkins’ race team from 2003 to 2006, again coming fifth at Bathurst in his final year there.
In 2007 he joined Supercheap Auto Racing alongside Cameron McConville, but started looking for a new driving seat with the announcement that SCAR would close at the end of 2007.
He says he is thrilled to have landed a drive with the championship-winning team.
“This team has proved over the past two years that it is second to none, winning both the Drivers and Teams Championships back to back,” he said. “It is the opportunity I have been waiting for, and I didn’t have to think twice about it.”
Newly appointed Team Manager Erik Pender joined the team in 1999 after successful stints in Formula 2 and Formula Holden with drivers such as Arthur Abrahams and Mark Noske.
Queensland-raised Pender was a technician and data engineer in the Young Lions days before going on to become Team Engineer on Greg Murphy’s Kmart Commodore in a successful partnership that delivered many race successes, including back-to-back Bathurst wins with Murphy and Rick Kelly in 2003-4.
Pender has engineered Rick Kelly’s Commodore over the past three years in a stint that netted the 2006 Drivers Championship.
Kiwi international Paul Radisich, who has agreed to return to the team for the enduros, drove with Kelly to second place in the Sandown 500 this year.
The team looks forward to welcoming him back to again bolster the driving ranks while also playing a support role throughout the season.
hooray, I get to support a #1 HRT car again
Tander and Skaife will be a strong team, although that said Larry still has race pace cars, just hasnt had the driver skills.
When he got Skaife to do some hot laps on a test day at Phillip Island earlier this year, the Perkins car was on par with the fastest lap times.
Todds a good driver, he has just had bad luck the past few years. All of Holdens on the road gremlins have attacked Todds car, like the gearbox issues of last year or the power steering problems of this year, and theyve always affected him for 2 or 3 rounds before being sorted.
It has been obvious since Bathurst that Tander and Rick havent got along. Rick pushing Tander off at Bahrain was an obvious sign, who does that when your both playing for the #1?
And then just the way Skaife "slipped up" to allow Tander through last weekend, or the way Todd slowed down quite dramatically, then sped up to help Tander play "mind games" with Whincup and Lowndes.
Go Jack Daniels into 2007 good to have kelly on board Perkins Motorsport!!!!
Cheers.![]()
