Re: Formation of a Commodore / Falcon series within the Victorian
Rally Championship for 2009.
On the 29th July there will be a meeting (venue to be announced based
on RSVP) to discuss the formation of a new Series under the Production
Rally Car Class for the Victorian Rally Championship.
The aim of this series is to allow people to participate in rallying
while minimising their cost. This will be achieved through a series
based on the following cars:
VN – VS Commodores
EA – EL Series Falcons
Issues of parity between the makes will be developed in the rules for
the series and as a result of back to back testing by two high level
rally drivers. The series will be for the 6 cylinder versions of each
make and will allow certain freedoms but also restrict modifications
to contain costs. Cars will be allowed freedoms in Brake pad material,
dampers and springs and interior set-up such as seats, exhaust freedoms
beyond the first manifold joint, air intake freedoms forward of the
throttle body etc.
All cars will be fitted with appropriate roll cage to a design
determine in the rules and unless specified in the series rules must
comply with CAMS NCR's for a Production Rally Car.

Could those wishing to attend RSVP by PM, please feel free to forward
this to anyone else you feel needs to know.
This seems like a great cheap way to get into the sport.
I will move this intot he motorsport section and sticky it there.

will it just be vic based???
being that its the VRC, id say so. but maybe they might branch out interstate into other states championships.
should be good for a decent low priced startup being that these cars are getting so cheap to pick up now
(btw, hi john, troy from autobarn traralgon)
Awesome stuff, I really hope it happens in WA as well, do you reckon they'll have similar setups for the cars as in the Saloon car series?
ooo sounds good should buy myself a rally project car
At this stage it will be only in Victoria but it will be in the premier legue that being the Victorian Rally Championship. If you have suggestions on how it could work please bring them along or put them up here so we can discuss it. I will provide you with a link to the Hyundai Excel Series (don't laugh) this is enormously popular for a number of reasons, a) it is cheap and easy to get into b) generally the best driver wins c) the cars a newish d) parity and cost are tightly controlled through the use of standard drivetrain. The Falcon people have got a 2 day jump on you (will probably need it) but are very enthusiastic.
Remember it is a series to encourage you to run, if you can't get out there in a VN S pack for under 8K I'll go hee. So in answer to the questions think about the aims it is not to get a power advantage, I can tell you now a Falcon or Commodore is not the ideal rally car BUT they will be fun!!! Coming to grips (grip being the operative word) with cars will be hard enough as we all learn. If you want to see how they go there is already a green VN that has been running for some time in the VRC and doing reasonably well it should will be in the 4th round of the Victorian Rally Championship up at Rawson (just north of Moe in Victoria) Saturday week be busy all day from about 9am till 7pm.

Quick update on where I'm at with all of this we will be having a meeting on Tuesday the 29th July (Venue to be announced) but likely to be just off the Monash Freeway in Clayton. I have spoke to some car builders including the bloke that built the cages for the Clubsports to Dubie. There is general concensus to keep the cars as close to stock but upgrades to suspension and brakes may need to be looked at (particularly for the Falcons).
There is a Commodore in this weekends 4th round of the Victorian Rally Championship that is close to the guidelines so I will see if we can use it for our back to back parity testing which will be held up at Mafeking Park if the proposal goes ahead and we have sufficent interest. At this stage it is all looking good for a 2009 series of 5 VRC for the Series Cup and any other rallies you may wish to enter.
would be great to watch. near stock commodores on gravel roads.![]()

Looking forward to meeting you, remember this weekend a taste or what you can expect next year at Rawson Village, North of Moe, action kicks of at 12 noon till 8 pm
service park will be open to the public.
So is there gonna be a practice run held on the 29th or something? If it is be sure to get plenty of videos!
I feel a little bit giddy about this, seeing how there were a million HQ's and now there's about 10thanks mostly to HQ racing you could basically watch them dissapear from the road day by day as soon as that class started. Anyway it can only make VN's a classic faster I suppose
so long as there's plenty of video evidence I'll be ok with it
hahah sweet, im in for this
Iv got a couple of project cars that ill sell, buy a nice stock vn-vr. Make sure its manual then set it up for track!!! im so in for this!!
