Morning Guys,
Well in the background while things have been humming along I have been in talk with a web designer who will be taking on the task of coming up with a complete new design for the web site.
Work isn't expected to start for another 2 - 3 weeks approximately but at this stage it's sounding good and we'll finally be able to go back to doing whatever we want and not have to worry about upgrades going wrong as some of you may have seen in the past.
During the upgrade vBulletin will also be put into place and should generally have a much nicer feel about it along with suggestions from the feedback section implemented.
That's about it for now but I will keep everyone posted when progress is made on the site.
Cheers
Darren
Sounds great Darren, keep up the good work and thanks for putting so much of your own time into a site that helps so many.
Cheers
Jake

yes i must say that this is an awesome website. there may only be a small (compared to bigger sites) number of active members on the forums but i feel we are such a close group and we all know each other.
i have been thinking of sending an email to street machine magazine so they can put this website in their magazine where they list 10 or so websites per month. is anyone for or against that? i dont want to go ahead and do it if people dont want me to.

Maybe start a poll in another thread but I'm all for the idea, good thinking bud and I agree about the group of active members, slowly growing everyday too.
Keep up the good work everyone
Jake
Yeah good idea VS, I had thought about it but wasn't sure about any legal stuff, etc. So just check with Darren and if he says it's a go then go for it.
Cheers

Yeah,
I think there are a lot of innactive members, as well as people who have signed up and only posted 2 or 3 times....
Can we find out how many people are regulares? Say 5 + posts a week or something?
Cheers,
Robbie
Robbie/MuNtEd, I am not sure whether this is possible but leave it with me and I'll see what I can find out.
Anyway to the actual point of this post. I am after lets say 3 people to test the new forum out. The first 3 people to PM me will have the first insight to the new look forum and web site when it becomes available all in due course.
I will be contacting you more than likely tomorrow night or during the day with further details.
I have taken a recent snapshot of the database and placed it on to the new forum and now we just need to test by any means possible to make sure everything falls into place nicely and there are no obvious issues which need to be fixed. Although I have done this without the site being live the fun part is going to be doing it while the site is live in a few weeks to come.
i have sent you a pm darren, but i will be at work tomorrow night so if you dont reach me then give someone else a go.thats if i was one of the first three.
grover
There is now 1 position available for testing so if you want it you had better be quick
Update: All positions are now gone, all people who have contacted me should have had a PM back with details etc, if not let me know.

Darren, if you need any (ANY) help at all, please don't hesitate to email me (if the email I have here is broken: tr3nt@iprimus.com.au) I'd love to help out on the behind the scenes of this website. I know a lot bout website design/html so yeah, gimme a msg if in doubt or you want something done.
.. oh, and also:

- Could I suggest you move the database to phpbb forum, it would require a new start to the forum.. but Im sure it wouldn't be too difficult, no?
tr3nt.
Thanks for the offer tr3nt but starting from scratch I personally would be thinking it would really hurt the site, I would rather trying to keep everything intact as there is already a lot of useful information out there.
Moving to vBulletin by the look of it has been a success so far, still a number of things which I hadn't noticed myself but we are getting there and documenting everything which has happened during a changeover to the test site so I can keep a close eye on it when the final changeover takes place.
I will likely call on your help once the site is going to get all the information from the main page online although that is still a few weeks away last I heard and for all I know the web designer could be doing that for me.
phpBB I have used on a number of sites before, even on JC at one stage then I made the move across to Invision because the administration side of things in phpBB really lacked the things we needed which Invision has.
A little bit of an update, all going to plan the web designer is starting on the site next week, I am unsure how long this will take but no bought by early April I would imagine we would have moved across to the new look.
cant wait
for it to come out
well done darren on such a successful site

Well here we have it, tomorrow the new site layout should be started on. I have put down the deposit and signed all the necessary paperwork to go with it so we should be right to go from here.
Time wise we are looking at closer to 2 weeks for it all to come together but it should be well worth the wait.
I have asked for permission to get feedback from you guys when I have some of the designs at hand, after all if it weren’t for you guys the site wouldn’t have become what it has.
No no, If it wasn't for you Darren this site would not be where it is today. The members have only carried on from where you started it all. My congratulations goes to you and Garth for a job well done and to all members as well.
Thanks.
Stretch.
Very funny Scotty. Now "beam" me up my clothes
Exactly what stretch said...its not just us members but without you creating the site there would be nothing for the members to join up to. Great work cant wait for the new site should be good

Well here we have it, it's still in development stages but one thing which has been put forward to me is ideas ie colours, layout etc. I reckon the blue theme seems to be the go but it's my favourite colour as well.
I have to get back to the web designer probably by no later than say tonight so if you come across any sites which you love and want to see the design somehow reflected on Just Commodores please put your post up here and I will forward the information on.
Thanks for your patience guys

One of the better looking Vb forums and my favourite.

Another great look/layout

Yet another favourite look but I don't like the yellow, navy blue titles and subs would look good.
Cheers
Jake
The worst thing is they are just forums Ideally it wouldn't be bad to find some actual sites like when you visit like justcommodores.com instead of forums.justcommodores.com.
