Default Holden-built Pontiac G8 records its best sales result since going on sale

Pontiac G8 - Aussie-made Pontiac G8 bucks the US sales trend - News

THE Holden-sourced Pontiac G8 last month had its best sales result since launch last year, despite the weakness of the US car market.

Pontiac sold 2707 G8s last month – twice as many as January and up 27 per cent on G8’s previous best monthly total of 2126 last April – the first full month of sales.

The monthly average of G8 sales during the last six months of 2008 ran at 1455. In January, Pontiac sold 1331 units.

Pontiac is happy to point out that of the 2707 G8s sold last month, 2695 were sold to private customers.

Like many cars for sale in the US, the G8, including the high performance GXP variant, are attracting cash-back deals of up to $A4100.

Total car sales for General Motors stood at 53,813 last month, 50 per cent below the February 2008 figure.

Good to see this car start to build a little momentum. Fingers crossed it continues.

Plus they are great bang-for-your-buck in the US.

I'm a member of a US-based forum and they absolutely love them over there...

The car must be getting good customer feedback and acceptance at last. This news must make a few people at Holden feel a little better about the export program.

Not many rear wheel drive cars like it in the US now - mostly front wheel drive stuff.

2,707 cars in a country with 306,000,000 people. Thats equivalent to selling about 150 cars in a country of 21,000,000 like Australia. Its good that all buy 12 sold were private buyers as well.

It's not a Commodore related forum, it's a car detailing forum ... but yeah those Yanks really rate the G8.

Yeah but when GM could only sell 50,000 cars in total that's huge considering how many different cars they make, plus the US is not really like Australia, you have millllllions of people in New York and other such mega cities that have no need for a car especailly not a big tank. Plus among the 300,000 million people are a vast amount of people too poor to even buy food let alone a car, there isn't such a huge social gap here

I don't think it's ugly but it is unneccessarily fussy.

Those little vertical orange indicator repeaters seem to clutter up the design. I don't mind the grille or the bonnet. Something a little more original with the lower valance and fogs would help too.

No, I'm with you. Except the bonnet scoops - they're nice IMO.

I agree with the comment about the vertical indicators - what were they thinking?

I have an 09 G8 GT, but I agree that the Holden front end looks much better. I'm planning on changing out my hood and front bumper for the SS V look. Either way though, it is a wonderful car!
