We use stuff called Silver Seal, it is impregnated with aluminium and is available through Mercury Muffler dealers.

Goon, I have found that if the surfaces are flat and clean before putting the gasket on, it should seal up perfect. Both my header gaskets are just bolted on and don't leak a single bit
There is high temp silicon by Permatex you could use but unless there is a reason to use it, I wouldn't bother and it's also expensive.

Hey, the best idea is to use the High temp silcone, it comes in a red tube and is red in colour, id recomend it as the gaskets on the extractors are heated and cooled frequently which causes cracking over time. The silicone will help seal any inconsistant surfaces. Im a fitter by trade and thats what i have been taught to do in all high temperature gasket applications.

The stuff is called: LOCTITE- 596 Superflex Hi-Temp Red Silicone
You can get it at most hardware stores.

There is a product called Gasket GOO but you never need it. That high temp silicone is just a gasket maker anyway if you didn't have a gasket to start with.

Gaskets made for the job, work. If they don't, then the surface area isn't prepared.
