check before you take my adivise!
but if there the same as the later models, do not get the grinder out if the 5-speed knob has a location slot in it (you will have to clean the silicone out to see this) and the only connection to the box are two 8mm bolts, you should be able to pick a short stick up for no more than 80 buck on ebay. there shold be no difference between 6spd sticks and 5spd sticks.

if im wrong correct me.

For my two-bob's worth, I have a 6 speed SV6 and bought one of the eBay special short shifter sticks - designed for the tremec 6 speed (a-la V8), the fella told me it should fit the Aisin box - it DOESN'T!! Nothing even remotely like it!

I'm not certain about the 5 speed Getrag box, but I have a sneaking suspicion it won't fit either. My advice to folks is not to ask the seller if it'll fit, but make an arrangement that if it DOESN'T then you can RETURN it. (BTW - anyone after a short stick for their VY/VZ 6 spped V8??)

Cheerz!

EDIT: Agree with tysonvyss too - if you have a close look at how these sticks are constructed, it's not just as simple as grinding it off.
