    Default USB -> VR/VS/VT adaptor

I have designed and got working a USB to OBDI cable. This will work with a VR -> VT. The software to use is EfiLive V4. It has an evaluation copy that will run until the end of this year.

I have one cable ready to go and if anyone else wants any more it wont take too long to make more.

    It will cost $65 + $5 postage.

I can also do the VN/VP cable for $55. The difference in price is the VN plug is much cheaper.

Also if anyone wants to make their own serial version I can point you in the right direction.

Email me at michaelgw@gmail.com for further info.

Take a look under the steering column. There is a port there. You can plug this into my wonderous device From this you can read off what most of the car sesnors think are measuring.

Take a look at http://www.efilive.com look at efilive V4. That is the software you need to get.

The cable should not be a problem, different beast again to the VN/VP or VR->VT. The problem is finding a program to read the codes. Any ideas?

As for cost I don't think it would cost that much more (~$15) as it is only a few extra bits.

OK. I have found some software that might work:
    http://www.digimoto.com/faq.htm
Hardware not a problem, I need you to check the following to confirm I get the correct chip. Which OBD standard does the VX have?

the price is $55 + $5 postage. It plugs into a diagnostic port behind the left hand side passenger side kick panel.

I have now got some cheeper plugs so the VR/VS/VT version is now $65. (note that efilive trial version runs out at the end of the year)

I am working on the GENIII version and expect to have something next week.

from what I can work out the VX/VY V6's still use the same cable as the VR->VT the problem is that I cannot find any software that will work. Efilive is the software to use with this cable but they don't have any codes for beyond the VT.

The GENIII V8's use the OBDII protocol, which is different again.

yep, thats the plug. The usb one is my design and its all surface mount stuff but the serial version's design is at http://www.techedge.com.au/vehicle/aldl8192/8192hw.htm the parts can be got from jaycar or futurlec.com The plug is a bit tricky to get, I buy mine in bulk but you can try www.carplugs.com

If you are game take a look for the ftdi232bl chip for info on the usb version.

You cannot do any permanent changes to your tuning. It is for geting info out of the car like rmp, oil temp, air pressures and error codes (of course a paper clip is a much cheaper option for this). You can also clear faults as well. Take a look at efilive.com at version 4 for more info.

Regards the price, these sell on ebay for about $90, so I think I've dropped the price enough. You can always make the serial version yourself.

No, do you have a link?

If it works with the elm322 it should work with what I am up to.

    Default Vx?

    Hi,

Can you make a cable that works for the VX S series 1 V6?

    As far as I know, it uses the J1850 VPW protocol. The connector has pins 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 9, 12 & 16.

I am capable of writing software to read data that is coming in through the USB port, but what does the data look like as it comes through? Im guessing its not just a line of text....

I'm trying to get this to hook up to a PC system I am installing in my car (www.mp3car.com - im sure a lot of you have heard of it).

    Thanks,

    Jarrod

    Jarrod
The V6 uses 8192 baud UART comms
the VPW is Class 2 & used on LS1 only

Yeb as Rob said. The VT cable has the right electronics but I have no idea of any software. You *should* be able to tweak the files on carbytes/efilive4 to do the job but I have no idea where to start on that one.

Default Using cable on a VY ? Off Topic

Gidday this question is for Michael W. and Doctor Bob.
If I was to plug this cable into my VY series I ASDL plug under the dash from my laptop. With the engine stopped or running or then starting the engine. Can I do any damage or hurt anything ? I've been downloading different programs off the net to see if I can get a scan off the engine ( want a full diagnostic read out ) Going to try Digimoto,Diagnose 3.0 and EFIlive etc to see what happens. Eventually wanting to find one that may work with the S/C PCM that will be fitted with the engine swap. But for now just want to look around to learn a bit.

    Cheers
