If ya can do the work urself, it can work out cheap if it doesn't need any machine work. If the bores and bearing journals are all good, well she'll prolly only need a hone, and buy a rebuild kit for around $300-$350 I think (gasket kit, rings, bearings). She'll need an acid bath (would get all that old burnt oil off with no dramas), which could cost like $50, then get the workshop to remove and refit new cam bearings (need a special tool) at the same time. That's roughly around it, as long as it doesn't need machine work ya can get out of it cheap.

Used most of the stuff on my other engine and you can pick up a valley cover for under $50. The heads are worth a couple of hundred i would think this is all you need if you want to build a motor while still running your own car
