It appears I have purchased another car!
A 1972 HQ Kingswood. One lady owner from 1972 to 2009, who then sold it to a wrecker where it was saved by the bloke who sold it to me! He didn't even drive the car, he had it towed to his house
Set me back $1600 all up, with a full tank of petrol! lol
It's in complete working order. 202 with a trimatic, runs smooth as a baby. Transmission is beautiful, suspension is.... comfortable.... and the paint isn't too bad for something that old.
Only three small holes from rust, in the usual spots.
Plans? Probably restore the paint and interior, fix up the rust, and clean up the 202. Ideally I'd like to see it looking relatively original. All the chrome appears to be fairly new, and it has a full set of hubcaps, so that will save me a bit of resto money. But for now, it shall sit while I decide how to approach it
Meanwhile, here's some pics of this beauty:

It's lovely, about as good a original HQ as you could ever find for that money nearly 40 years later. I vote for surface rust removal 400 SBC, turbo 350 driveline and slide around on the bench seat forever onward :P
Good find, looks like it'll come up rather nice. Is this one going through Jenny Craig?![]()
wow, the potential of this thing is amazing.... paint it, hubcaps, white walls and an 8 would be fantastic
keep the stock engine and trans just incase![]()
jealous mate good project for sure. I love to have an older car like that as a project

once I get it RWc, the interior retrim begins!
No jenny craig though. There's no weight to lose really! I'm going to try and keep it as original as possible. It doesn't need to handle well or go through hills. It just needs to be a HQ, and I'll love it.
Yeah, the 202 will stay for a short while. But only for as long as it takes me to decide on, and build an appropriate engine. The jury is still out on what engine goes in there!
Hahaha man that picture is AWESOME. Best shoop ever. Love the work on the wheels
You're not wrong about them never going out of fashionHQs were the best damn looking car from that era, hands down.
hahaha yeah, it starts so nicelyJust started it then, and it was running before I even finished turning the key
Ahhh... yeah, I always thought I'd regret this if I didn't buy it. So I HAD to get it. I always wanted a HQ in this colour - I couldn't say no when I saw it for sale! It's like a dream come trueALWAYS wanted one.
Thanks for the comments guys, I'm SO THRILLED about this car! ^_^
I found out the colour: Taormina Aqua Metallic. It's beautiful. Gonna be hard to paint it thoughI hate painting metallics! lol

At this point, I'm thinking I'll redo the interior (what colour?)
And then I'll build a good engine for it (350 chev?)
Then leave the exterior looking oldBest sleeper EVER!

Black interior as i said earlier with grey lining
308 Holden engine would be sweet as since it would suit well and be original enough
but if u insist on a chev then get a 350 or 454![]()
Get rid of the gay old man white walls allreadypainted white lettering on the tyres was where it was at once the HQ's were racing the streets
BF Goodrich![]()
