    Default HZ 1 Tonner 5.0L

    Here we go with my brothers's HZ 1 Tonner tray top with a conversion to a VQ injected 5.0 auto.

    The car was purchased from country SA for $1,200.
    Engine = 202
    Trimatic column shift
    Bench seat.
    Gas system - already removed

    It will be painted yellow

    Just finished doing all the electrics - Gee they had been hacked at.

    Pretty cool mate, chuck up some pics of the rest of the car!

    Only thing I'm not too keen on is the tray/mudflaps. Don't suit it imo.

    all the checka ally will go and in it's place will be tool boxes and pull out trays. will also get an extra tank for real long trips out into the SA country side

    Motor is just about done now - welsh plugs and oil pump to go. Then it's the few wires to make her go.

    pretty good paint job on it for what i can see, was it resprayed recently? will it be a daily driver?

    Yep painted to hide all the rust. So off comes all the paint and bog to clean up the body work. Then re aline all the front panels - they are way out

    Front end gets done while the panels are off.

    Looking at diff options - disk rear LSD also.

    Motor gets slotted in on Thursday. Then comes the wire it up bit. We have all the HZ wire diagrams - but the original wiring has been butchered up a bit.

    Motor is in and the trans x member has been made and fitted. Air box is in and the battery tray moved to the other side.

    I like looking at other peoples EFI conversions to see how they go about it....

    Although, most of the time it's only the little things that differ as the engine is pretty much a bolt in job on a HQ-WB.

    The job is almost done. Motor all in and mounted up.

    Things to do:
    New floor sheet metal for bucket seats
    lengthen the exhaust around the tranny.
    Mount gear selector (using VS floor)
    Fix accelerator stop
    Drill hole for the ECU plug and mount ECU.
    Replace fuel tank and connect hoses.
    Snip 90mm out of the tail shaft.
    Fix the rear brakes.
    Purchase a pulse adapter ans speedo cable for the T700
    Start engine.

    Good work, certainly getting there. You wiring it up yourself?

    Just out of curiosity, what are you using for the fuel system? You're doing a few things different to how i normally do it, but for the most part it's about the same

    Worked out what diff to use yet?

    Using the original tank with external fuel pump and will add a second tank soon.

    My younger brother will finish off the wires n stuff. But that's just about all done.

    Diff is going to stay stock for now with rebuilt drum brakes until the floor/seats are sorted.

    No surge tank or lift pump? Just a single fuel pump....

    Atleast being a 1 tonner it will have the big Salisbury, not a Banjo.

    Using 2 pumps - 1 for each tank - have not figured out how it will all work yet. Some fine tuning will be on going I guess. (Read when things dont work quite right )

    The floor replacement will be fun. Tossing up to put the replacement pans in or chop the whole floor out and weld in a Commodor sedan floor with the seat mounts and shifter tunnel all in the correct spot.
