Feeling like a dick at the moment. Wired up my tachometric relay wrong...doh.

    12v Constant
    -ve Coil
    Ground
    Fuel Pump

Whenever the battery is connected, the fuel pump is wirring away, then when i put key to ACC it stops. Get the feeling my 12v supply should be coming from an accessory source so that it only gets power to the relay while the ign is on yeah?

Also, can i've taken the heater fan out of this thing, so is it right in saying that if i wanted to, i could just put caps over the heater hose outlets on the water pump (all legalities aside) and just be done with it. Or will i run into overheating issues?

Pretty sure you need a heater for the demister to get a roadworthy, could be wrong. Shouldnt have issues with overheating as nothing flows through those pipes unless youve got the heater on, which you wouldn't on a hot day when you would have an issue.

Cheers for the reply. Car is still registered so it doesnt need to go over the pits to get back on the road

you can get grub screws that bolt in to the water pump outlets. much better than blocking the hose, but itll all depend on the condition of the outlets. shouldnt be an issue with blocking them off though.

but yeah vk sl 202 is right, you need a heater for RWC.

Car almost ready to drive. Need to earth the block and tighten the alternator belt. Battery went flat so need to jump start it in the morning. Lucky it's parked nose in but the battery is in the boot

Need a new exhaust, this one's kaka, so just got headers and about 2 foot of pipe on there, will take it to exhaust place in the week maybe.

with the tachometric relay... im wondering if it is meant to be earth biased, i.e. when you turn the key on, shouldnt it be sending earth to the pump, and the pump constantly hooked up to +?

just a thought. i didnt do mine that way.

I've got an annoying charging system problem. Battery keeps going flat.

    Running

0 Gauge from battery to starter
4 Gauge from starter to alternator
8 Gauge from block to engine mount

Car starts fine after charging the battery all night, or if it's been left to sit for a day, but if i try and restart it after driving it instantaneously, the starter just clicks once at me and that's it and i need to get somebody to stick jumper leads on, wait for about 4 minutes and then it will kick over.

    Any suggestions?

OK. This is a diagram of how my wiring is setout.

Do i need to run an earth from the alternator to the chassis
Do i need to run a bigger earth from the block to ground
Do i need to run an earth from the battery to the block
Do i need to run the light for the dash to make the alternator run properly

Also, these problems only manifest if im driving the car in traffic, if im driving at a constant speed, i dont get issues it would seem

I'd maybe throw a fatter earth on there too, (block to chassis, 0 guage)
Probably be a tad overkill, but you've got 0 guage from the chassis to battery, battery to starter, may aswell complete the circuit with heavy cable, thats where most of the juice is going to flow.

Don't know if it'l help with your problem though

Thanks for the replies guys. Have also posted this in the electrical section, just for more coverage, not ignoring what you've said.

charging system wont work without the alternator light hooked up.

you can get it working temporarily just by running the wire (green i think) from the back of the alt through a small globe to +12V then just check to see if its charging at the battery then.
If it is, continue ahead and hook up your alternator light properly.

    say wah????

you dont need an earth or a light. single wire from the alt to the starter works 100% fine on the impala and it is using the alternator off my VK.

all of you questions are answered NO. however it is a good idea to run extra earths all over the place.

how are your thermo's rigged up? i think you may find that your alternator can no longer keep up
