what cam have you got in the 308? i'll be interested how you go with the torker manifold, i didn't get that great of a result with it but you might be pulling alot more revs
isn't that carb a bit on the large side for a non stroked bottom end?
oh, just on the inlet manifold topic. i would be more than willing to swap my edelbrock performer manifold, plus a bit of cash to sweeten the deal if your interested.
Hell yeah SabbathSS, gotta love the look of a smooth bay - but gotta hate the amount of hours sanding to get it there hey
I must blame Sean (VLBerlina5Speed - I think thats how its spelt?) on here for his efforts on his VL, that engine bay looks like pure sex, or silk...![]()
After a while of admiring it, I made the decision I want 1 too! Even though he said his "took a fair few hours of prep work to get it look like that"
I sorta though "ehh, I'll do it"
3 (mostly) full days later, only having the two inner guards done, and not even starting the firewall made me realise how much work is in it
But you're second crack at it looks like you've got some good results coming! Keep it up, will be watching this thread now I've looked and found it!
Not 100% on the cam specs. Waiting still for the guy who owned the motor before me to get me the information. Same with the rest of the setup. He built the motor (works for an engine builder) then on the first drive wrapped the car around a pole and put himself into hospital and subsequently rehab. All i know is that it's a solid cam.
Possibilities for the future may be to stroke it. But, not sure yet.
Thanks man, probably not, just going to leave it. Adds a bit of charm to the engine bay.
Haha, thanks. Sanding...sanding...more sanding. That's pretty much how my weekend was. Spent 90% of it with my arse perched on the crossmember working away at the tower. Atleast when i do the drivers side i wont have the brake lines poking me in the neck the whole time.
I went in with the same attitude, "oh yeah, i'll get the bay done this weekend easy" then the weekend ends, and im only finished on one guard.

be interesting what the torque is like lower in the revs, maybe a higher stall would be ok, but you do lose some streetability.
in a light car like the VH its not as critical though.
I'll most likely leave this setup as is until i get the car running. Will put it on a dyno once it is, and then sus out what it has and where, and where it needs more.
It's a good starting point though.
Anybody have a rear end out of a VH or something they want to sell me? And a tailshaft?

Haha.
This motor was initially hooked up to a 9inch cause the guy reckons he kept snapping pinion shafts....not that i believe that for a second...just going to get a rear end out of something that was meant to handle the 308, and a tailshaft to suit the trimatic. Then later down the track i might throw in a 28 spline diff out of a VL, depends how it goes.

It'l be worth it in the end though, otherwise you'd look at the bit you weren't happy with, forever, and wish you had fixed it when you had the chance! Trust me
What colour do you have in mind?
Tell me about it. Went out and bought a Mouse sander tonight to try and get a more even finish on the larger sections.
That's the main reason why i did it, could have quite easily left it. But would never have been happy with it as a whole.
Jade green, keeping with the green, but just deeper. Possibly. Maybe. I dunno.

Really re-energised me to get going on the bay. 5 minutes of sanding with the Mouse is equal to about 20 of hand sanding, and with a much more even finish.
On a side note, guy from work brought in his VH today. Thing is off tap. Runs a 10 second quarter, full weight. Amazing car. If i can get my car to 1/3 the level it's at. I'll be happy.

Going to try my hand at welding up some holes tomorrow. Have an Arc welder, plenty of scrap to practice on and many fingers crossed. Any tips would be welcomed.
Also bought some more filler, so hopefully the bay will be finished this weekend. Then can work on getting the motor cleaned up and bits bought.

Yeah, i've decided to go in that direction now. Keeps the towers cleaner. Plus keeps some of the original look.
