Hi dk
That problem with chroming weakening spring steel is called "hydrogen embrittlement". I learnt about it the hard way back in the 70's when getting the same thing done on my HT. Nice shiny hingest and springs - for about two days! Then POW - opened the bonnet one day and had to duck as the spring broke and flew past me. Took the other one off and replaced them both with good old black painted ones.
Spring steel and chroming definitely don't like each other.
Love the old HD's and HR's - watching this thread with great interest. I've had both an HD and HR Premier - wish I still had them.
Hahaha yep the old black spring has never looked better, now just got to replace the other on I painted yesterdayits only taken 6 months...
This is the front end I put in the HR, took it back to bare metal with the help of my little apprentice
smoothed some of the engine bay, was going to do all of it, but that was going to be a major so kept it simple. The battery tray has also been deleted and now lives in the boot.
Im looking at replacing the diff and going disk brakes, has anyone ever used a volvo diff for the conversion, Ive been looking into it and apparently the 140 model is the same width, and
the stud pattern is the same and you can still use the 13 and 14 inch wheels as well, any help muchly appreciated.
My HR is now up for sale if anybody is interested? dont want to sell as will never regain what it owes me, but that is life, and I cant take it with me
where im going![]()
Yes, how much is she on the market for??
My missus loves it, (but she isn't in the market for another car - unfortunately) but curious to see what its up for?
I have put it on ebay for $4,500 its on there for about 7 more days I think, I don't want to sell it, but the wife wants us to move back to her home
in Denmark in a years time, so I have put it it for sale before I spend more money on it, it doesnt need much to put it on the road, new carpet,
windscreen, glovebox liner and roof lining is about all it needs to complete it, which is all available new and it would be a very neat HR as
it has all the premier interior in black, and I have spent quite a bit of time making it look like an original 4sp manual like shaving the honey pot to
remove the column shift lever and it looks great, its all the little things that make it look neat and tidy and is very time consuming as you all know
having built and modified cars yourselves, the engine bay gets a lot of comments and its never left my garage since I built it, its like a magnet especially
for people around my age having had one of these as a first car when we where 16 years old, its been a lot of fun building this car as they are easy to work on
but like I said, its gotta go to a new home.
Dave.
Nah didnt sellnow I dont know what to do with it, do I keep spending money on finishing it, which really ist much, or do I keep trying to sell it the way it is?
Cheers.
IMO, you should keep spending money on it, finish it the way you want to.
Then if you end up moving in the future, either sell it to me (if I have the cash at the time) or pack it up in a container and send it to denmark!!
So, yeah, dowiiit
