    Default Danny's MJ Triton

Haven't been doin to much to me VK wagz, mainly coz I bought a Triton to take up in the hills with me brothers and a few mates. My Mum has a Pajero that she sometimes takes offroad, one of me bro's has a Hilux, and one of me other bro's has a Mav shorty(aka Patrol lol). When the Triton got traded in at my bro's work, his boss asked him if we'd be interested coz he knew we were into our 4b's and he didn't really wanna sell it to anyone coz it needs a bit of work (which he knew we were more then capable of).

Anyways got it for a bargain, so I've now got my first 4WD. It was a farm hack which had a broken front window (had heaps of cracks in it), fuel tank leaked, steering was all over the place, tyres were pretty much stuffed, a hole in the floor, lights barely worked, glow plugs had to be manually heated, driver seat foam was stuffed, and yeah was just dirty all over it and dirt through everything.

Have pretty much fixed everything that was wrong, out of all that I still got the stuffed seat, but the missing foam is replaced with rags, and the fuel tank I've patched up with metal-mend gear until I can find another tank. Had a new window fitted, tightened up all the balljoints which tightened up the steering (now has like zero play), got new tyres, rewired the headlights, fitted a switch to heat the glow plugs and closed up the hole in the floor.

    It's a 1994 MJ Triton 2.5 turbo diesel.

Engine bay when I got it.

After 10 minutes with a few cans of degreaser and the high pressure washer.

On our first outing, posing with me bro's Mav.

    The Mav, with me bro.

Definitely handy having a tray on the back!

    Brand new window.

Switch for the glow plugs, oh yeah and fitted a boost gauge lol.

    Fitted a dual battery kit.

Another day up in the hills.

    Me and my Triton.

Another day up in the hills....well at the bottom, but getting there.

    After the 2" bodylift.

    Bunnings flares!

Then it was time for the new treads.

New tyres are 33x12.5x15 Maxxis Bighorns. Also bought new black sunraysias too. Me bro bought the same tyres for his Mav which fitted no probs (the Mav was already lifted when he put them on). I knew I'd prolly have a few drama's with them fitting on the Triton, but figured I'd make them fit lol. They seemed to fit ok at first, but couldn't turn full lock without them scrubbing on the rear of the front gaurds...so out with the grinder. Still had drama's, they'd hit the footwell when going over bumps. So got the blow torch onto them and hit them in a bit. Was all good. Had also wound up the torsion bars as far as they would go. Went up in the hills and they were scrubbing still under flex, and when turning the passenger side grabbed the gaurd and ripped it in. So decided to re-index the torsion bars. Pretty much just had to chuck the front on axle stands with the wheels off the ground, unwound the torsion bars till the bolts come out, pulled the bars out and turned them around a few splines and put them back in. Doing that lifted it up a fair bit more, and is now pretty solid. Haven't had it back up in the hills yet, but tried it over a few bumps on full lock and they don't come close to hitting now!

Also started making a new custom bar....but still isn't finished. Here's how she is 2day.

Just bought a new UHF radio and aerial and fitted that the other week (the hand held uhf was driving me crazy, especially when going up a hill and it would fall off the dashboard and go under the seat). Also chucked a sports wheel on there and fitted new tail lights.

Next on the cards is to replace the transfer case coz the chain is slipping bad. So yeah can't afford that for about another 3 weeks so she is in the shed for a while. Can still drive around the street, but as I only drive it up in the hills on private property (no licence) and not on the street it doesn't really get driven unless someone else takes it for a spin.

For the last 2 months, we've made it a regular thing to go driving up in the hills every weekend (we don't really organise anything until the day we go). It's great fun, legal, all on private property, gets the adrenaline going, and it's a great day out with mates and family!

Nah we're not in a club. I know there's one here, but it's more for the 'older' type folk. We started going up in the hills by ourselves, then other family and mates saw some pics and loved them, so we said they're more then welcome to come, so yeah now we get a few 4b's coming with us. It's heaps of fun. This weekend just gone we done the same track as we done the previous weekend. The first time it was easy, but had a few real good bits which kept ya on ya toes....2nd time it was a bit wetter and took a little bit more to get through which made it interesting lol.

It's not wet all over tho, only in a few spots. As we've only been doing it for a few months, we haven't been out there after a massive rain.....can't wait until it happens tho.

Here's a video of a few weeks back (b4 I got me new tyres) when I damaged my passenger door. Already had the snatch strap hooked up on the front (didn't think I'd make it thru the creek), and yeah had it going over the bonnet, around the mirror and into the passenger window....and well it come loose, fell down and went around the wheel, which yanked the mirror, which is steel, and bolted to the door, which pulled the door skin back lol. Next time I just gotta remember to hook it up on the opposite side of the window it goes in haha.
