This is our HT Monaro currently in the build process
when we got it it was in pretty good condition besides a couple of rough repair jobs that had started to rust and a slightly warn out drivers floor
so far we've had it soda blasted, all the rust cut out and new panels welded in
front sub frame removed sand blasted old rails cut off and replacements welded on and painted along with front cross memeber, front suspension rebuilt
Diff pulled out cleaned up, new gaskets and repainted, rear leafs redone
Engine completely rebuilt: 350chev
and so far thats it, still needs a fair bit more work till were done
When we got it
The engine Before rebuild

Love seeing cars like this brought back to life!
Nice munro mate.
thanks guys, i am also really excited to see it coming along, Dad recons only another couple of months untill we get her in the paint shop, we get the extractors back from ceramic coating hopefully next week but ill keep u posted on all the other little details along the way
thanks guys, the color is going to be the original Seabring orange with black stripes, all the interior is going to be original re-trimmed with exceptions of the stereo system which isn't going to be anything special just something better then the old AM radio, and we picked the car up from brisbane around 2 yrs ago and drove it back home to sydney
Is the original trim going to be the optional orange and black houndstooth pattern in cloth or vinyl?
Old Munro's blow me away - I didn't think there were any left to restore.
Woops, few errors here with the engines. Let an old bugger sort you guys out on this one.
HK (1968 to 1969) 161, 186,186S, 307, 327.
HT (1969 to 1970) 161, 186, 186S, 253, 307, 308, 350 (The 307 was replaced by the 308 during the HT production run)
HG (1970 to 1971) 161, 186, 186S, 253, 308, 350
Shooter's car is a GTS and he mentioned that the engine is a 350 Chev - if it was an original factory built GTS 350, then it is a very rare and valuable item. The 161 and 186 could only be purchased in the base Monaro. GTS had the 186S standard, then you had the GTS 327 (HK) and GTS 350 (HT and HG). The base Monaro and the GTS could be optioned with the bigger engines up to 307/308, but the top of the range engines could only be purchased as a complete package. (ie you couldn't buy a base Monaro with a 327 or 350).
Shooter - best of luck finding that trim. It's definitely the way to go. Do you know of a source?
Mate fantastic build. I like that you're keeping it original. Best of luck with it, will be watching with interest.
Whats the difference between the 186 and 186S?
I had a 67 HR Special with a 186S and 2 speed powerglide but never knew the difference between a 186S and 186.
We're going a bit off-thead here, so I'll keep it short. The 186S was fitted with a two barrel Stromberg WW carb instead of a single barrel Bendix, larger diameter air filter, twin cast iron headers instead of a single outlet, modified cam timing, free flow exhaust of slightly larger diameter than the standard system, heavier duty main and big end bearings. The base 186 was rated at 130 bhp and the 186S was rated at 145 bhp.
Gees, I love helping out with all this early stuff. Bread and butter from my youth.

omFg... I think Jester described it pretty well
Sex on wheels.
Subscribing also.
Hey, a Saginaw! Haven't seen one of those since I sold my HT about a hundred years ago!
Shooter - the instrument panel was more of a satin black, not full gloss, if you are going for originality. Also, the panel had a chromed finish on the raised lip around each dial. I'm pretty sure you can get these things restored by firms that specialise in this sort of stuff, but again, it depends on how far to want to go to keep it original.
It looks like the correct Chev "engine orange". Holden used their own "engine red" but the Chev colour was a distinct orange.
Yea mate the dash is a satin black, it looks alot less shiny in the photo it's just for some reason it decided to show up glossy, also the chrome on all the raised edges has not been painted on yet as all we had around the shed bas black and chevy orange paint. Thanks for the input and I'm glad you like the Saginaw, cant beat the old 4 speed.
Sag's were a clunky old bastard of a thing but they made all the right noises - whines and clunks. Make sure your selectors are in top order too. They can get sloppy and lead to difficult gear changes - as if they aren't difficult enough when they were in good nick! The problem is caused by the shift mechanism being bolted to the floor, not to the box, so the box moves around with revs and torque and the shifter remains fixed in place. This means worn shifter rods can do nasty things under hard revs. I had an HT GTS with a Saginaw and one night when I was giving it some, I went from 1st to 2nd, then back to 1st by accident, at about 90km/h. The bloody thing went back into first without a problem, but the ol' 253 up front didn't think much of the idea!
thanks mate i will keep that in mind when we are about to stick it back under the car, just to save time so we don't have to pull it back out if it does need anything replaced.
