Oils leaks are gone on the Acclaim. There aren't any, its old oil I think. Gave it a Gerni and ran it for awhile, took it for a quick spin, no sign of any leaks. Same with the coolant.
Got the seatbelts out of the Berlina, and the washer bottle. I'll buy some brand new stuff for her when I sell the AcclaimHavent got the cardboard out of the Berlina roof yet though, should do that in the next couple days and get the new cloth on it and into the Acclaim.
He didnt pick it up on the RWC inspection but it also needs a battery clamp, so I will grab one tomorrow. Then its just a matter of a set of tyres onto the stockies and fit the Odo sun gears and its passed RWC.
There are some faded spots on the roof and boot. The bonnet is also faded but it has a dent in it anyway so I am thinking of finding a similar coloured bonnet for it and leaving it at that. I might consider a (same colour) respray if I can find the energy and a buyer who is willing to pay a few hundred extra for it. The body is good, with a respray it should look pretty schmick. The interior is very good.
North Brisbane, VR Acclaim, 170k on the clock (broken until now, actual kms unknown) , sold with current QLD RWC. A/C works etc.. Rego optional, respray optional. Goes exceptionally well but no outward signs of any mods.
Any offers?![]()
Just need to add, since I have had an official warning about it..
When I took the Acclaim for a test drive after getting the gearbox working again, I went down the end of the street ( a quiet street in an estate thats still being built.. there are no houses on it at all..) and after I U turned and got back into second gear I tested the kickdown. That is what you do when you check out that all functions are working correctly. It kicked down at 40kmh and lost traction. I was surprised at this, and yeah I guess I had a bit of a rush of blood to the head and left my foot down for a few seconds.
I mentioned all this in a post, just discussing how surprised I was at how well it went. the post was deleted and I was warned.
I even added at the end of that post, I in no way condone or encourage this behaviour. However, it wasnt deliberate, not at first anyway, it was in a construction area not a residential area, and at all times the car was in control and within speed limits.
This is a far cry from the multitudes of posts in here regarding people who admit proudly that they do reckless and dangerous things on the road. I still dont condone or encourage this behaviour, and I accept that not lifting off the accelerator for 3 or 4 seconds when I could have was perhaps a little irresponsible.
I think the mod that warned me needs to get off their high horse though. Its a pretty small pond to want to be a big fish in.

Part of the RWC I am getting for the Acclaim was new headlining. I started by using a rubber backed grey curtain material, it would have looked pretty classy, but it wouldnt stretch at all.
Went down to Spotlight and found this stuff at $5/m on clearance.. 10 bucks worth and a tin of kwik grip and heres the result. Theres no foam backing, its fairly thick material and I decided not to bother... just the material stuck to the cardboard.
Its a stretchy kind of felt fabric, its not too bad if a bit colourful.. the only colour they had on clearance![]()
It nearly matches the colour of the car though so I guess thats a plus. I think it looks pretty good, I will stick it in the car tomorrow and find out

Hey man, i absolutely love this thread.
We have similar interests; Cars, Woodwork and money ! Hahaa.
Im not a green type of person but i love the look of that paint !
Kitchen is coming up a treat mate ! I should post up a few pics of my bed i made as a major project last year, quite proud of it if i do say so myself :P
This is definitely one of the best threads on this forum. Everything is detailed and is worth reading. Keep up the good work.
Cheers,
Jake.
Hey thanks a lot mate, glad you like itI'm no expert at woodwork, and I find it pretty tiring because I am physically limited, but its very rewarding and I am proud of what I have achieved so far.
The cars are kind of on hold, though I think the Acclaim should have RWC passed next payday, then its up for sale.
I need my kitchen back... priority one.
Heres a couple more pix of the kitchen lol... just testing fitting the oven and cooktop for size and position, the hole isnt cut into the benchtop for the cooktop or the flue yet..
Behind the cooktop will go a 900mm wide, 70mm deep stainless steel rectangular flue (same width as the oven), to vent the oven space. That will double as a splashback for the cooktop, then to the right of that will be another backboard like the one on the left. The flue was made today I think, hoping for delivery on Monday.

I fixed the seatbelts on the Acclaim too. They werent retracting and I had planned to use the ones from the Berlina to get it RWC and just buy some brand new ones for the Berlina later. It turns out not to be necessary.
I took the plastic trim off from over the front drivers seatbelt, and tried the seatbelt directly out of the spool. It retracted rapidly and easily, so I figured the mechanism must be ok. Its only when it meets the resistance of the buckle it feeds through that it seems to stick.
I got a bucket of water and dishwashing liquid, and one of those green scotchbrite pads, and gave the seatbelt webbing a thorough clean. Then I tried the seatbelt and it had improved, but was still not retracting well enough. When it was totally dry, I tried it again and it had improved a little more.
Then I sprayed it with silicone spray. Tried it again, while the spray was still damp, and it was much better. Not great, but probably good enough for RWC, so I let it be.
Next morning I came out and tried it, and with the silicone spray now totally dry, the seatbelt works like brand new.
Problem solvered boss.
Kitchen is coming up a treat !
Going to look real clean with doors and a squirt of urethane
That oak is a gorgeous piece of timber.
A nice slab of redgum would have suited well tooA lot harder to work with though..
And a lot more expensive lol.. real wood aint cheapThis is supposedely 'white russian oak', a fleabay special imported from Germany. Its 4 grands worth of wood, would have been more like 7 grand in redgum so it will have to do..
Redgum would have looked awesome too, but I am trying to enlarge the kitchen, and the darker colour of the redgum would have made it appear smaller. The light colours make the room look bigger.
The surface on the sink benchtop and the backboard behind the stove cupboard have already been laquered, the whole kitchen should come up about that colour, except for the doors. They are pine, so they will come up a bit blonder.
Thanks for appreciating it, I am so proud of it. Anyone can paint a car lol... this will be the nicest thing I have ever made. Its gone from a pokey little 70s chipboard kitchen with green benchtops to a large, modern design.
Soooo looking forward to the first meal to come out of that awesome double oven....

More kitchen photos... welcome to Just Commodores and Kitchens
The last of the stove cabinet has been made, and everything glued and dowelled together. Some of the wood has been laquered, those bits which would be hard to get at later. Those dark doors down the end are the pantry, that will be deepened next and it will get the lighter colour pine doors too. I'll be having 8 doors instead of 4 though, each door will become 2 shorter doors instead of one long one.
Here you can clearly see the difference between the bare wood and the laquered wood, where some parts have been laquered and some havent. There is no stain, its just a water based polyurethane. I've added some handles to the few doors and drawers that I've fitted so far, but of course they still need laquer yet so the handles will have to come off again. The hinges are those spring loaded canti-levered things, so no latches are necessary.
The stove cabinet. The big gap in the backboard is for the stainless steel flue which will come up the back of the cooktop, venting the stove cavity and doubling as a splashback. Obviously I havent cut the hole in the benchtop for that yet, I am waiting for the flue to be delivered so I can double check the size.
The edges of the benchtop still need rolling and there is plenty of urethane needed (and doors..) but its actually starting to look like a kitchen. The stove and cooktop are now wired up but I wont use them until I seal the benchtop, to avoid staining.
The big gouge in the wall is where I am relocating that double power point to the right hand end of the wall, below where the light and fan switches will also go. The cabling isnt long enough sadly, so I have to buy some more cable to extend it to where I want it to go.

Lol too true, as i was doing my year 12 timber furnishings course we did work experience in the industry. The place i worked at was making a 12 seater dining table out of a single slab of redgum, nearly 2 inches thick ! Said it was about 10k worth of timber ! Was absolutely amazing timber though.would have been more like 7 grand in redgum so it will have to do..
The polyurethane over the top is miles better ! Looks a treat mate !
Cant wait to see it all lacquered up and the pantry doors finished !
The Acclaim needs new tyres for RWC. I was going to stick some chinese cheapies on it, but I found these on fleabay, seller was half an hours drive away. Silver VZ steelies and hubcaps, should look better than the old black wheels and no hubcaps.
Bridgestone Turanza ER30 tyres a definite step up too, these look close to new, and all four hubcaps look like they just came out of a box. Absolutely as new condition.
$200 the lotBeats the crap out of $320 (fitted) for a set of chinese cheapies...!!

Some more kitchen stuff. Pulled the cupboard out and dropped the flue into place but I havent secured it yet. The curves on the top of the timber uprights are just to provide a space for the power cable to come along the wall.
It should provide some pretty good airflow - there are also 16 20mm holes drilled in the base for intake air. There is a cross oven ventilation system as well, with 70mm between the cooktop and oven intaking from the front and venting from the flue. Theres a flat piece of stainless for the back of the flue too, I will spot weld it into place after I have secured the rest of it.
Havent rolled the edges of the benchtop yet but there are a couple coats of urethane over it anyway, just to protect it from staining. Gives you an idea of colour I guess, but the final finish after sanding it back will be the same as the sink cupboard.

Good find. I actually think they may be interceptors?

Yeah he advertised them as pursuits.. i wouldnt know, to me they are all just steelies lol
Tyres are 225/60/15 Bridgestone Turanza ER30's, all 90%+ tread. I've never used them before but searches come up with nothing but good about em.
He said he bought an ex govt car and immediately put some 18s on it. Even the wheels are pretty much unmarked. I'm pretty pleased, saved some bucks and got a better option at the same time

Kitchens getting there, the flute/splashback looks great.
Nice pick up with the ceptors too ! They look brand spankin new!
Yeah they doI have taken all the hubcaps off and checked them all out, they are like straight out of a showroom. Even the wheelnut holes still have paint on them.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
scored a deal with those ceptors there man !
Car definitely looks better with them on. The old black wheels did kind of hide that massive space in the wheel arches though lol... suddenly I feel like it needs lowering and I dont often say that
Its not going to happen though, this thing will be sold as soon as I can get a RWC done on it. I might see if blackening inside the wheelarches helps

That looks sweet !

I have no doubt you will sell that car fairly quickly.
Blackening the wheel arches would help to a certain extent, and also make the car look more new.
