Hi People,
In case you didn't know, after playing around with numerous power-up things for the V6, I decided to get serious with my VT.
As you can see by the pics, there is a lot of work involved in this and as serious as it looks, the fun has only just begun.
The set up you see there was built by McDonald Bros. Racing and will handle anything I will throw at it for the near future, now the initial cut is made, I have to trim the floorpan forward and manouvere the clip into position and align it with the car, then weld it into place.
I will keep this thread updated as best I can.![]()

Thanks for the encouragment guys, this has been on the cards for a while, so i am finally happy to be doing some constructive work instead of just stripping old parts off of the car!
As for the V6, I sold the short motor to another guy on this forum, I still have everything else.
Something else entirely will be powering the VT along.![]()
are you going to tell us what that will be??
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
Twin Turbo Alloytech Running Aftermarket ECU and Turbo 400?..........
Awesome Project what ever it will be
'That' engine would blow a TH400 to pieces....would be an awesome sight!
To squash any reservations anyone may have...I am going to run a big block chev with mechanical injection on alcohol, naturally aspirated...nothing too out of the ordinary, just a good reliable recipe for power....
Will post more up when I can.....
Hey there Nick nice project, Big Block on Alcohol. Funny how things plan out, my best mate has just started toying with one also - Big Block with mechanical injection on Alcohol. I'll put a pic of the engine up here for you to get more inspired. I'll try to do something useful with your donor engine too, but just not as full on.
Cheers

Thanks Deek. I must say, that is a fairly unusual looking intake on that big block right there....Have you got any more info on the engine and car?
Cheers
I'll find out what I can Nick and let you know.
My mate has only just got it over from the states like about two weeks ago. It will be a huge learning curve for all of us I think. When I'm next down in the city again I'll get some close ups of the intake etc for you as well as what other info might help.
Cheers

Thanks for that Deek.
Looking at the pic you posted up, im trying to figure out what sort of engine it is....it doesnt quite look like a chev big block...those heads look like a buick/pontiac style head.....will be interesting to find out what breed it is.![]()
Hey Nick, it's a Camaro drag car and has Brodix cast into the alloy heads. I will ask for more info soon. We were both tracing fuel lines around the engine when he got it trying to figure the fuel system out. The previous owner said that he would have to put a pill in the fuel to get the fuel mixture right. It took a little while to realise he was talking about a brass jet in the return line which is changeable for different fuel requirements.
Like I said a lot to learn![]()

I thought you would've known that already, Deek?![]()
That is both the beauty and the reason I am going for mechanical injection, it is very easy on the maintenance aspect of things. It will never be as 'tuneable' as EFI but bang for buck, you cant beat it.
Shall talk to you soon.
Cheers
Yeah Danja, there isnt too much VT left, but my main aim is to make it look as stock as possible....i even have the 'ecotec V6' and 'executive' badges to put back on it when im finished....
I've been doing a bit more on it lately.....jeez theres some weld in there, but it'll take everything i throw at it hopefully.....

So any progress Nick ?

Hi People,
I guess it's time for a bit of an update.
Had a fair bit going on, so it's not moving as fast as I would like, but I am slowly chipping away at it.
This shows the clip and half chassis running through the floor
Shot of the fuel cell....just for interests sake, those tyres are 225's, I plan on running a 13 inch slick for starters
I have stitch welded all the front seams to give a bit more rigidity....Also helps stop the struts coming through the bonnet if I encounter a wild wheelstand
So that is where it's at, I have bought an engine, it needs a rebuild, but I will use it for engine bay mock up purposes for now.
Will put up some pics of that sucka when I get it. The make might shock a few people
Cheers
Well, the big block is here.
All 440 cubic inches of it. Yes, it's a chrysler RB 440.
I bought it not knowing any specifics or if there was anything wrong with it, turns out, it has a factory forged steel crank and the best flowing factory heads....bonus.
The turbos are custom items that I am rebuilding myself. Should be good for 20 pound at 7000rpm.
I will put some more stuff up as I get it done...
Good to see some steady progress there Nick.
The Chrysler BB donk is a bit of a surprise as thought surely it would be a Chev BB.
Hell of a Hybrid
Cheers

Great build up ecotec maniac. Very pro stuff going into it. What is the reason behind the Chrysler block instead of something with more readily available parts. btw those turbos' are huge! It is 2x turbo right?![]()
Any progress on this beast?

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the encouragement...
Just a bit of an update, the chrysler motor and turbos have been stored,
I now have a 565 BBC coming from Shafiroff in Long Island, New York.
Those guys seem to have the runs on the board with rat motors, so it was a logical choice. Should move the VT along nicely. Just waiting for some kirkey seats to show up then I can start assembling the cage. Hopefully have this thing up and running around xmas, plan to take it to powercruise at Hidden Valley next year.
Will keep you posted.
Quick update, the 565 was being dyno'ed when I rang Shafiroff at 7:30am (5:30pm their time) I have no figures for ya's, but i'll call them tomorrow to make sure they sent it and maybe get a power figure then. Should go alright.
