I originally posted this a while back but lost it in the crash so here goes.
This is what I bought - a 1976 LX Torana S, 202, 3 on the tree manual.

The plan is to fit a 5 Litre VN motor which I bought not so long ago. It was reco'ed about 6 months ago and already has pacemaker extractors fitted which I think will fit. The motor started after about 1/2 a crank and runs a treat but it sounded a bit wheezy when it got a rev so I pulled off the cat and found it to be completely blocked. 10 min, a big hammer and a piece of RHS fixed this. The car goes like a rocket now but the empty cat acts like an echo chamber and is very loud. I'll have to get a new one when I piece together the new exhaust.

Found a 5 speed from a Malloo Ute but the flywheel seems to have seen better days.

Tear down: Right now the engine bay and interior have been stripped bare. So far the rust has been very minimal. Fingers crossed!
I even managed to kick the screens out without breaking them. Some in progress shots:

Ok - it's been a few weeks and here is where I'm at. Front flares are on, guards are cut, rear spoiler is on.

Front is off and starting to blast the engine bay for paint. I'll need to weld in a couple of plates where the bonnet hinges have rusted away.

I had Monday and Tues off this week with the express purpose of painting the engine bay but came down with a bad head cold on Sunday arvo thus not much has happened
Probably won't get time to do much for the next couple of weekends. The car is going to be white with black bonnet and window surrounds. Black piping around the wheel flares.

Ive been lookin for a torana project lately but missed out on the perfect one.An LX factory 253 4spd one owner for $1500 but i didnt rush and he has now decided to keep the car and strip it for parts for another LX he just got.Not happy. Then today i just found out my brother just brought an original XU1.Good luck with yours.
Thanks for that. Good bodies are *very* hard to find these days. Most were trashed by my peers (and 2 by me) as teenagers in the late 80's and early 90's. Hopefully I'm not only older but a tad wiser now. $1500 is very cheap for a good V8 body. Even the rubbish is pulling several thousand these days.
So far so good with this one anyway

The one i looked at did have rust issues but was straight and never been messed with.I might look at it again as i think he has just got a statesman too so he might lost interest.
There is an LX-LH not sure which just down the road from me .( North Dandenong ) It's been there for a few years now under cover . It's been stripped but looks like its all there . Not sure who owns it as its in the old scout hall ,but might be worth a look if you need parts .
